Something New

DAY 3 OF 6

Give up control

Something new. God is doing something new. God promises them in this passage, once again, that He will set the people of Israel free from Babylon. In the same way that they were witnesses of what He had done in the past, they will be witnesses in the future. But He powerfully highlights in verse 15: ‘’I am the Lord, your Holy One, Israel’s Creator, your King’’. That’s the key to it all: He is God. He does what He wants, how He wants, when He wants, and with whom He wants.

A lot of times, we think we can control how God works. We, as human beings, like having control of things, and as people of faith we sometimes want to serve a predictable God. However, the God we serve is totally unpredictable. We cannot limit Him. God is not a God of formulas nor a God of methods. He is faithful, good, supernatural, and that does not change. He is able to do what humans cannot do. But, as He is not a predictable God, He does new things.

The reality is that God is in control of it all and that’s why we always put our trust in a sovereign God. I can’t control the things that happen around me. I only have control over what happens inside me. So, we need to learn how to give up the control that we think we might have, learn how to trust God and decide to walk in that conviction every day.

Just as the Israelites, it is necessary to forget about what God has done in the past in order not to limit Him. You might not be seeing what God wants to do in your family, in your economy, in your business and in the different areas of your life because you are waiting for Him to work in the same way as He has done in the past. You might be trying to control the way God works—and that’s exhausting, for in your own strength, you will never be able to access all the new things He is doing.

It is about giving up control and trusting in God 100%. Thankfully, He knows better than us. He works in different ways and, occasionally, in mysterious ways, but we can be sure that He will work for His children’s favor.

Prayer: God, I know you can do what I can’t. Help me give up control and let you be God in my life. I desire to experience everything you have prepared for me. Help me trust in you 100%. In Jesus’ name, amen.
