Reasonable Doubt

DAY 7 OF 20

We live in a time where most of us are looking for the next best thing: a new phone, a new gaming system, and new clothes. There is nothing wrong with wanting the "newest and latest," but what happens when that's all we can think about? We get caught up only thinking about ourselves and not other people. This is where we run into a slight dilemma if we are followers of Jesus.

In the book of Matthew, there is a story about a rich man who approaches Jesus. He asks Jesus what he has to do to get into heaven. Jesus says he has to give away all his possessions to follow Jesus. Jesus' answer leaves the man frustrated, and he walks away. Following Jesus can be frustrating at times because, as we said, we like to think about ourselves first and not others. The way of Jesus is to love others as you love yourself. This means we are meant to show the same love and compassion to others as we do to ourselves.

Today as you read, think about a time when following Jesus felt frustrating. Then, take time to talk with Jesus about why you felt frustrated.

About this Plan

Reasonable Doubt

What’s the most unreasonable thing you’ve heard? Was it a story or a statement that was hard for you to believe? It can be difficult to ask questions or express doubt when other people seem so certain, especially when it comes to faith. In this 20-day devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we’ll see it really is possible to have questions and doubts while still having faith.
