Have you ever wondered why bad things happen to good people? Everyone at some point has experienced the peaks and valleys of life. Someone once told me the next time you are on top of the mountain, make sure you bring a shovel. This way you can start throwing dirt on the other side to soften your fall. So why can’t life just be full of mountain tops?
In the Parable of the Great Banquet we’ll read about a man who is holding a feast and he invites several people to join him at this feast. However, everyone he invites is too busy with their worldly things to join him at his table. So instead, he invites the poor, sick, blind and lame, who all choose to join him.
God has a feast prepared for each one of us. The invitation is open and there is room at the table. Far too often we are too busy with the things of this world, things that will someday be turned to dust, to accept that invitation. God wants us at His table. He knows that when we eat from His table we will never want again. When we fall from the mountain tops and reach the valley below, God is calling us to Him. He is stripping away the things of this world that distract us from His invitation.
What’s in your life that could be distracting you from God’s invitation?
Are you inviting the right people to join you at the table?

About this Plan
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
