There's Hope For Today

DAY 42 OF 366

It was such an emotional display that the locals talked about it. Why did He weep?

Some will tell you it was because of the grief He saw in Mary and Martha. Others say He wept because he knew that Lazarus would have to come back to the struggles of life. To me, it doesn’t matter what triggered this flow of emotion. What matters is that Jesus wept.

God broke down and cried. He proved himself the forever-faithful high priest suffering with His people. To Mary it seemed that God was running late. Her words betray her deep disappointment. It would seem that the “Great One” was coming to grips with His first failure. But then the Master wipes His eyes, clears His throat and says, “Roll away the stone.” What a moment! Here we have a God who weeps with us in our pain, and then “rolls away the stone” of suffering. Here is both Friend and Deliverer, Brother and Master, Sympathy and Salvation. This moment was the perfect “bridging” of God to man. He cried out of His humanity, then He spoke out of His divinity, and the dead lived again.

Where is God when we hurt? He weeps with us; He walks with us; and He works in us. Don’t doubt Him, not even for a minute – He can still roll away the stone.
