Lent Devotional: RestoreSample
Restore: Mean Bean Challenge
In December 2017, around 20 students in Durham, England, took part in our Mean Bean Challenge. On day two, they recorded the following blog post, which can help focus our prayers today:
“This is day two of our Mean Bean Challenge and I must admit, it’s not easy!
“There are so many stories of terribly desperate situations where Tearfund has been able to intervene and sustainably help people overcome issues of food poverty. But there are still so many hungry people across the world that need our help. This may be a huge issue, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a huge impact in its resolution: we have a God who loves the hungry and who is breaking our hearts to open our eyes and help them.
“The safety in knowing that we can eat as much porridge, rice and beans as we want is really a luxury in this world. If you’re not doing the challenge we really ask you to be praying with those who are…”
Dear God, thank you that you are a God of compassion, a God whose heart breaks for those in need. We lift up all those around the world who are suffering due to political unrest, conflict, climate change and natural disasters. We pray for your protection and provision for the hungry, and we pray for your blessing upon the work of all those helping provide solutions to these problems.
Amen.
