The Fruit of the Spirit - Madhvi Ittoo
We have all heard about the fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians. These fruits will grow in us as we remain in Jesus - as we talk to him, listen to him, obey him and read his Word. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control will become visible in our lives because of our relationship with the Saviour.

1. Love
The fruit of love that the Holy Spirit cultivates within us is a love that expresses kindness, helpfulness and generosity.

2. Joy
The difference between joy and happiness is that happiness depends on circumstances and what is happening, whereas joy is independent of circumstances.
Joy is the inner work of the Holy Spirit. The joy we as believers experience is a supernatural joy. It is a joy we get when we choose to meditate on God and his work. This joy creates hope in us. This joy enables us to understand and obey the Word of God.

3. Peace
Peace is more than just the absence of conflict, it is taking action to restore a broken situation. It’s more than quietness and rest, it is a state of wholeness and completeness. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. And he gives us peace with God, others and ourselves.

4. Patience
Having patience is not just being able to wait, but being able to wait with a good attitude and without complaining.

5. Kindness
To be kind is to act in a loyal and loving way toward someone. Kindness is caring about other person above our own needs and desires.

6. Goodness
Like the fruit of love, goodness is expressed when we are kind, helpful and generous. Goodness involves compassion, extravagant giving and investment of time.

7. Faithfulness
Faithfulness is steadfastness, consistency and loyalty. It is carefulness in keeping what we are entrusted with.
As Christians we are called to be faithful in all the areas of our lives because we serve a faithful God. The Holy Spirit helps us to produce the fruit of faithfulness, so that we can be faithful in our relationship with God and people.

8. Gentleness
We are to treat other people, regardless of what they may have done, in a gentle manner. Gentleness is not a natural personality trait; gentleness has to do with our attitudes and how we approached people.
Gentleness is not weakness; on the contrary gentleness requires a lot of strength. Gentleness is linked with humility - to be gentle is to be humble.

9. Self-Control
Lack of self-control is a fruit of the flesh. Without self-control, we are open to the enemy's attacks and we become a slave to ungodly passions.

Let's Apply It:
For our lives to bear the fruit of the Spirit, we have to walk by the Spirit.
