Message Information

Date: May 29, 2022
Series: For Sure
Title: "The Proof is in the Pudding"
Scripture: 1 John 3:9
Speaker: Dr. David H. McKinley, Pastor-Teacher
Introduction
Spiritual Authenticity = Knowing God and Walking with God
1. Is There a Contradiction in Our Character?
“It’s a sad but obvious fact—sinners don’t like boundaries. Sinners tend not to esteem rules. Sinners don’t like to be told what to do. Sinners don’t tend to love authority. Sinners tend to want to author their own moral codes. So you can’t even pray this prayer, “Lead us not into temptation,” unless grace has visited you. Only powerful, rescuing grace can take you from “Let me do what I want to do” to “Guard me against the temptation to do what You know is best for me not to do.” If you’re a parent or can honestly reflect on your childhood, you know that one of the biggest and most important battles children have with their parents is the battle of authority. The same is true of our relationship with God. You don’t have to read any further than the third chapter of the Bible to see that battle break out and alter the entire course of human history.” —Paul David Tripp
2. Is There a Denial of the Power of Christ?
3. Is There Evidence of a New Nature?
• Recognize the Destructive Power and Deceitfulness of Sin
• Repent and Confess Today!
• Remember to Measure Everything by the Word
“There is a God-originated, God-communicated set of boundaries that I have been designed to live within. Real life is found inside these boundaries, not in the discovering and experiencing what’s outside them.” —Paul David Tripp
• Remain in the Fellowship of Biblical Community
• Rely on the Enabling Presence of God’s Holy Spirit
“When dark hours and when the darkest hour comes over us, then we want to hear the voice of Jesus Christ calling in our ear: ‘Victory is Won.’ Death is swallowed up in victory. Take comfort. And may God grant that we will be able to say: I believe in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. It is in this faith we want to live and die.” —Dietrich Bonhoeffer
