Mass Murder Trial of a Teen-age Gang

David Wilkerson

“On February 24, 1958, Life magazine published a feature article titled “Mass Murder Trial of a Teen-Age Gang.” It pictured seven gang members accused of murdering Michael Farmer, a fifteen-year-old boy disabled by polio. The trial arrested the nation’s attention, not unlike the O. J. Simpson trial almost four decades later. But it totally wrecked a Pennsylvania pastor named David Wilkerson. One of the boy’s faces—the meanest of the seven—was seared in his memory. Others read the article, but Wilkerson wept over it without knowing why.”Whisper, Mark Batterson page 164

Remembering David Wilkerson - Nicky Cruz Interview

World-renowned evangelist Nicky Cruz recounts his first time meeting Rev. David Wilkerson and his conversion from gang leader to child of God. This clip originally aired on Charisma Magazine's television show in the 1990s.

“The checks of the Spirit come in the most extraordinarily gentle ways, and if you are not sensitive enough to detect His voice you will quench it, and your personal spiritual life will be impaired. His checks always come as a still small voice, so small that no one but the saint notices them.”

Oswald Chambers, My Utmost, August 13.
“We have already seen that faith does not come by a human striving to believe; instead it comes from God as he works within us by the Word and the Spirit and helps us to believe. No matter how hard we try, we can never produce true faith by our own efforts...

Living faith begins when we hear God speak.

This faith-hearing is not a vague awareness that God has spoken generally, it is an acknowledgement that God has spoken personally, intimately and directly to us – and so his word begins to work deep within us.”

Living Faith, Colin Dye page 67

Dr Charles Price

Dr Charles Price (1887-1947) wrote a book called “The Real Faith for Healing”. He was originally from Britain and trained in law at Wesley College, Oxford. He had an incredible gift of communication holding audiences spellbound. He attended Aimee Semple McPherson’s meetings in California and was filled with the Holy Spirit. After preaching he would offer to pray for the sick. He was a mighty evangelist who often had one thousand conversions per day in his campaigns. Dr Charles S Price had one of the most miraculous ministries ever seen. His book the Real Faith was written not in the early years of his ministry but after nearly 20 years of ministry.

Dr Charles Price Quote

Don’t you know that your prayers can be answered? Don’t you know that your burdens and cares can be left at His feet—that you never need bow your shoulders again with the weight of sorrow and care? I am praying, please God, that thousands will read these lines and abandon their self-efforts as they realize that it has led them only into doubts and fears that destroy confidence and trust in God. Know ye not that “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God?” (Romans 10: 17). In my Greek New Testament it reads, “and hearing by a word of God.” There is a finer ear than the one with which we listen to church music. There is clearer ear than the one we use to listen to the reading of the grand old Book. The Bible is a book through which God speaks, but all do not hear His voice in the lines. “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by a word of God.” Let Jesus speak to your heart and doubts will fly away on the wings of the morning. Let Jesus breathe a little word to your burdened mind and heaven is brought to earth. Fear is gone like a shadow in the light of His glorious truth. Let Him say, “Bring him to me,” and then cometh faith—God’s faith—His faith—and the weary heart will cry, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” Let Jesus breathe on you with His love and presence, and your mountains will tremble and race for the ocean. That’s how faith comes! Not through the channels of human concepts. Not along the paths of human understandings. Not by the ability of the mind to understand, or the power of the intellect to affirm. Reach for your healing with those and you’ll struggle endlessly in vain to obtain it. But let Jesus speak, and it will be enough. Just one word from Jesus is worth more than all the words in all the dictionaries there have ever been or will ever be. There is hope for every Bartimaeus on today’s Jericho Road when Jesus of Nazareth is passing their way. “Hope,” did I say? Yes, hope—and more than hope; for when He hears our cry of helplessness. He will not pass us by. When He speaks, hope is kindled until it becomes a fire that burns away all doubt and unbelief, and the warmth of a divine and beautiful faith brings healing to the soul and body. O Master, speak! In our need and self-helplessness, we would lift our hearts and voices to Thee. Speak the word—that will be all we need. We have tried, with the broken cisterns of our faith and endeavors, to believe; but their waters have failed! Savior, Savior, hear my humble cry; While on others Thou art calling, Do not pass me by!--

Charles Price – The Real Faith for Healing Location 792

“I know from many testimonies that such faith is given while the soul waits before God in a quiet and beautiful attitude of trust and rest in His promises, rather than in the turbulent atmosphere of our noisy strivings and endeavors. “Wait, I say, on the Lord. Rest in the Lord! Wait patiently for Him and He shall bring it to pass.” (See Psalm 37.)--"

Mark Batterson says this on page 16 of Whsiper:

“Silence is anything but passive waiting. It’s proactive listening. The noted author and professor Henri Nouwen believed that silence was an act of war against the competing voices within us. And that war isn’t easily won, because it’s a daily battle. But each day God’s voice gets a little louder in our lives until He’s all we can hear.

“Every time you listen with great attentiveness to the voice that calls you the Beloved,” said Nouwen, “you will discover within yourself a desire to hear that voice longer and more deeply.”

Henri J. M. Nouwen, Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World (New York: Crossroad, 1992), 37.”

2 Questions to Ask

The first word of the SHEMA is hear or listen which in Hebrew is pronounced as SHEMA. In Hebrew listening and doing are 2 sides of the same coin. Listening in the Bible is about giving respect to the one speaking to you and doing what they say. Real listening takes effort and ACTION. There is no separate word for obey in Hebrew so SHEMA means to hear and respond. So if you SHEMA GOD you can answer the 2 questions:

1. What is God saying? If you SHEMA – you have ears to hear and listen.

2. What am I going to do about it? If you SHEMA – you will respond and act because you are a servant who responds the the desire of your master.

Rightnow Media Whisper Series

WhisperMark Batterson
Many people have a tough time believing that God still speaks. We’ve learned from Scripture that God spoke to His people in ancient times and in mysterious ways, but how do we hear His voice now? The truth is God still communicates with His people, but He often speaks in a whisper—not to make it difficult to hear Him, but to draw us close.
In this 4-session series, Mark Batterson teaches what it means for Christians to discern the voice of God in their lives. He will introduce the seven love languages of God—each of them unique and entirely divine. By learning to tune in and decipher each language, Mark equips believers to hear God’s guidance and grow closer to Him.
God is speaking. Do you know how to listen?

We Value the Power of Prayer

“Supernaturally Transforming Lives and Circumstances”

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6 NIV
As a church we have numerous stories of people who have had prayer answered and seen incredible miracles take place. We have stories of; miraculous healings, miraculous protection from danger and harm, children being born when it seemed impossible, hospitals and orphan’s villages being built in Haiti and many, many more examples that God still answers prayer today and miracles do happen.

Join a Team

“Our Church is not built on the talents and gifts of a few but on the sacrifice of many.” –Brian Houston

The Vine church is as effective as our people. The greatness of our church relies on the heart of our people and their willingness to serve others. Our church functions because ordinary people give their time, talents and energy willingly and cheerfully to serve others.

Joining a team is an excellent way to get connected into the life of our church, make friends and help the church to grow. In fact the growth in health and size of our church depends on every member serving and “doing their own special work”:

“…as each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is growing and full of love.”
Eph.4:16 NLT
