Joshua 1:12-18 The Message (MSG)
Then Joshua addressed the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. He said, “Remember what Moses the servant of GOD commanded you: GOD, your God, gives you rest and he gives you this land. Your wives, your children, and your livestock can stay here east of the Jordan, the country Moses gave you; but you, tough soldiers all, must cross the River in battle formation, leading your brothers, helping them until GOD, your God, gives your brothers a place of rest just as he has done for you. They also will take possession of the land that GOD, your God, is giving them. Then you will be free to return to your possession, given to you by Moses the servant of GOD, across the Jordan to the east.” They answered Joshua: “Everything you commanded us, we’ll do. Wherever you send us, we’ll go. We obeyed Moses to the letter; we’ll also obey you—we just pray that GOD, your God, will be with you as he was with Moses. Anyone who questions what you say and refuses to obey whatever you command him will be put to death. Strength! Courage!”

And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go. According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses. Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

Then Joshua addressed the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh: “Remember the words that YAHWEH’s servant Moses commanded you: ‘YAHWEH your God is giving you this land on the east side of the Jordan as your homeland.’ Therefore, your wives, your little ones, and your livestock may remain here, but all your valiant warriors must cross over with us armed. They will take the lead and help their brothers until they take possession of the land that YAHWEH your God is giving them as their homeland. Afterward, you will be free to return to your own land and possess the land that Moses, YAHWEH’s servant, gave you here on the east side of the Jordan.” They answered Joshua: “We will do everything you have told us and will go wherever you send us. We always obeyed Moses, and we will always obey you. May YAHWEH your God stand beside you as he stood with Moses. And anyone who questions your authority or disobeys whatever you command shall be put to death. So, Joshua, be strong and brave!”
