Ecclesiastes 1:14-15
Ecclesiastes 1:12-15 The Message (MSG)
Call me “the Quester.” I’ve been king over Israel in Jerusalem. I looked most carefully into everything, searched out all that is done on this earth. And let me tell you, there’s not much to write home about. God hasn’t made it easy for us. I’ve seen it all and it’s nothing but smoke—smoke, and spitting into the wind. Life’s a corkscrew that can’t be straightened, A minus that won’t add up.
Ecclesiastes 1:14-15 King James Version (KJV)
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
Ecclesiastes 1:14-15 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind. What is crooked cannot be straightened and what is lacking cannot be counted.
Ecclesiastes 1:14-15 New Century Version (NCV)
I looked at everything done on earth and saw that it is all useless, like chasing the wind. If something is crooked, you can’t make it straight. If something is missing, you can’t say it is there.
Ecclesiastes 1:14-15 American Standard Version (ASV)
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind. That which is crooked cannot be made straight; and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
Ecclesiastes 1:14-15 New International Version (Anglicised) (NIVUK)
I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind. What is crooked cannot be straightened; what is lacking cannot be counted.
Ecclesiastes 1:14-15 New King James Version (NKJV)
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind. What is crooked cannot be made straight, And what is lacking cannot be numbered.
Ecclesiastes 1:14-15 Amplified Bible (AMP)
I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity, a futile grasping and chasing after the wind. What is crooked cannot be straightened and what is defective and lacking cannot be counted.
