Year of the Bible: Part Six of Twelve

DAY 18 OF 30

Types are Important

In 1 & 2 Chronicles, "types" are very important. Typology is a special kind of symbolism (a symbol is something that represents something else). The temple God instructed Solomon to build was known as a "Type of Eden"—a place where God dwells.

Solomon built the temple from plans his father, David, received from the Lord. The plans David received mirrored the plans Moses received from the Lord when building the temple in the wilderness. The specific structure and artwork of these temples symbolize the Garden of Eden. Eden was where God placed man in order to have a place to fellowship with those He created in His image. Since Eden was closed due to man's rebellion, the temples God instructed to be built mirrored the Garden in art and substance.

In this chapter—and the next few that follow—we see details of the temple construction that harken back to Eden. The temples are where God’s people can enjoy worship and fellowship with God.

Question: The details of the temple construction are significant; they remind us of the detailed plan God has in place to bring each of us into fellowship with Him. Do you notice any of God's handywork on display in your life?

Prayer: Spend some time thanking God for the details of your salvation journey, especially that He is calling you "back to Eden" and back to spending the "cool of the evening" with you (Genesis 3:8).
