He Shall Reign

DAY 5 OF 14

Throughout scripture, we see different reactions to the presence and power of God. Moses fell to his face in awe at the Lord’s voice, Adam and Eve quickly turned from comfort to shame in His presence, Jonah grew angry at God’s mercy, and Sara chose to laugh when told she would finally have a son (Genesis 18:12-15). Like Sara, maybe you can relate to realizing difficult times have hardened your heart to God’s goodness. Maybe her laughter came from bitterness? Or, maybe it was disbelief because she only knew how to wait instead of walk in the promise?

In Mary, we found a very different reaction to God’s promise. Similar to Sara, she was in a time where there had been a lot of waiting, but not a lot happening in the way of miracles. She would have been raised in the “400 years of silence.” Waiting for God to speak would have been her normal; it was what she knew. But as the angel began to tell her God’s plan to bring the Savior into the world, Mary chose to trust God with her questions and align her response with His promises rather than her feelings.

Throughout Scripture, there had been promises to the family line of Abraham that one day, a King would be born into their family who would bring Salvation to the earth. Like Sara and Mary, we have a choice in how we respond to God’s word. What will the posture of your heart and mind be when God moves in your life?

APPLICATION:

While music isn’t the only way we worship, it’s a helpful method to direct our minds and hearts to total recognition of Jesus. Take 10 minutes today, whether in your car or at home, to listen to a few worship songs and let them frame your mindset towards how God is moving in this season.

About this Plan

He Shall Reign

He Shall Reign is a two week Advent study from New Life Church of Arkansas. Throughout this plan, we look at the anticipation of Christ's birth and how He came to establish His kingdom on earth. Our prayer is that this study would remind you of the unshakable reign of our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
