Fall in Love With God's Word: Practical Strategies for Busy Womenنموونە
Day 3: Meditate on God’s Words All Day Long
It’s 5:30 a.m. on a random Tuesday morning, and I am exhausted.
Resisting the urge to hit the snooze button yet again, I quietly roll out of bed and tiptoe across the hall, pausing slightly on squeaky floorboards so I don’t make a sound.
Safely inside the bathroom, I do my best to ignore the tired, make-up smeared reflection I notice in the mirror, and instead pull up the Bible app on my phone. “Which chapter was I on again? Somewhere in John...?”
Sure, reading the Bible in the bathroom before the sun comes up isn’t exactly glamorous. But in my current season of life—with three energetic little ones, a rambunctious puppy, and a messy house to clean—it’s a routine that works well for now.
Do you ever struggle to read God’s Word as much as you’d like because you simply don’t have the time? Trust me when I say, I completely understand!
Thankfully, you don’t have to spend hours in God’s Word each day to reap the benefits.
In Joshua 1:8, the Lord gives Joshua final instructions as the Israelites prepare to enter the Promised Land. “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
You’ll notice—God never commands the Israelites to read their Bibles every day. They couldn’t. The Bible wasn’t written yet, and they certainly didn’t have their own individual copies.
Likewise, Scripture never commands or requires us to read God’s Word every day either.
If you’re in a season of life where a lengthy daily Bible reading routine isn’t realistic right now, that’s okay. You’re not failing as a Christian if your quiet time is less than ideal.
Here’s what the Bible does say: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (James 1:22).
No matter how much time you can devote to reading God’s Word each day, the important thing is that you know the Scriptures well enough that you can live according to them. So what does that look like for you?
Can you listen to an audio Bible while you clean the house, drive the kids to soccer practice, or pick up the groceries? Can you post verses around your house so you can meditate on them throughout the day?
How much time do you need to spend reading (or listening) to God’s Word to be able to do what it says? What’s a realistic Bible plan for you in this season?
Today’s Challenge: Find easy ways to meditate on God’s Word—even when you don’t have time to sit and read. Put one or two of them into practice today.
