Leave A Legacy - Trust Fall Series

DAY 2 OF 7

Repetition Results in Remembrance

It's not that it’s necessary to leave behind large collections of all sorts of famous people or of important positions. You want to leave a difference-making legacy. That's what Peter is telling us. He says, “I will always remind you about these things.” I'm interested in leaving a legacy and I know you are as well.

Repetition results in remembrance. How many times do you think I could get you to read this before you would remember it? Repetition results in remembrance. This means that you remember things when you repeat them over and over. Have you ever gone to a website you don't go to that much and when it asks for your password you simply can’t remember it? You don't remember it because you don’t visit the website or use the password often enough. However, if you pull out your phone and it's time to put in your password to unlock, you don't even think about it. It doesn't even give you a moment of pause. You just put in the code because this action has been repeated so many times.. Repetition brings remembrance.

Peter is saying, "It gives me no harm to remind you of what this whole thing is about with Truth." Did you know that all throughout the Scriptures we see references to remembrance? It's in many other places in the Bible.

Paul says, "I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you."

Jesus says, "Again, I assure you…”

Matthew says, "Again, I tell you."

Paul says, "As we have said before…”

If you’re at church sometimes and think, “I've heard this before," awesome! It’s great to have heard it before. The reason that you know your phone number is because of repetition. Have you ever driven home from a place and you don't even remember the process of driving home? All of these things happen because repetition brings remembrance. This can also have a negative effect, can't it? If somebody is continuously saying negative things to you, it is so easy to store that away in your memory. You need to rewire your mind to focus on what God is saying to you. “Rejoice. Again, I say, rejoice.” I want you to declare those words. Repeat and declare the words that God is saying to you in His Word.

About this Plan

Leave A Legacy - Trust Fall Series

What will be your legacy? We often think about the material things we plan to leave to our children. Or we think about raising our children to be successful in this life, but what if we begin to think deeper. Peter tells us that our life is like a tent, it pops up and down eventually, but we have the opportunity to leave a legacy for generations to come.
