Marriage, Money, and Unity (4 Questions to Ask Each Other)

DAY 1 OF 4

The goal of this plan is to create an open dialogue about money and things that you probably don’t think to discuss.

So, a plan like this might take a little longer for you to get through because we want you to actually talk through some stuff you may not have talked through before. So, if now is not a good time, take a raincheck and come back when you have a half hour or so because we think this will really be life-giving for your marriage.

But if you’ve got the time, grab your spouse, grab a bowl of ice cream and let’s go!

There are obviously a million different things you can (or may need to) talk about with your money, but these are some big picture questions that are worth discussing.

Before we get started let’s all agree that we are going to answer these questions honestly (with grace and kindness) and without any blaming, name-calling, or hair-pulling.

Deal?

Let’s get to today’s discussion question.

Thankfulness is one of the most powerful joy-altering forces that exists. And since money can be such a point of contention in many marriages, it makes a lot of sense to start getting our minds oriented towards the good things that God has done and celebrating them.

  • What are you thankful for with our current financial situation and what God has done in our financial lives since we got married? (Do you have a job? Do you have any money in savings? Do you own a home? Have you gone on vacations? Etc.)

(Take 5-10 minutes and discuss with your spouse)
