Psalms 83:9-18
Psalms 83:9-18 The Message (MSG)
Do to them what you did to Midian, to Sisera and Jabin at Kishon Brook; They came to a bad end at Endor, nothing but dung for the garden. Cut down their leaders as you did Oreb and Zeeb, their princes to nothings like Zebah and Zalmunna, With their empty brags, “We’re grabbing it all, grabbing God’s gardens for ourselves.” My God! I’ve had it with them! Blow them away! Tumbleweeds in the desert waste, charred sticks in the burned-over ground. Knock the breath right out of them, so they’re gasping for breath, gasping, “GOD.” Bring them to the end of their rope, and leave them there dangling, helpless. Then they’ll learn your name: “GOD,” the one and only High God on earth.
Psalms 83:9-18 King James Version (KJV)
Do unto them as unto the Midianites; As to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison: Which perished at Endor: They became as dung for the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: Yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna: Who said, Let us take to ourselves The houses of God in possession. O my God, make them like a wheel; As the stubble before the wind. As the fire burneth a wood, And as the flame setteth the mountains on fire; So persecute them with thy tempest, And make them afraid with thy storm. Fill their faces with shame; That they may seek thy name, O LORD. Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; Yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, Art the Most High over all the earth.
Psalms 83:9-18 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera and Jabin at the torrent of Kishon, Who were destroyed at En-dor, Who became as dung for the ground. Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb And all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, Who said, “Let us possess for ourselves The pastures of God.” O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like chaff before the wind. Like fire that burns the forest And like a flame that sets the mountains on fire, So pursue them with Your tempest And terrify them with Your storm. Fill their faces with dishonor, That they may seek Your name, O LORD. Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever, And let them be humiliated and perish, That they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth.
Psalms 83:9-18 New Century Version (NCV)
God, do to them what you did to Midian, what you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River. They died at Endor, and their bodies rotted on the ground. Do to their important leaders what you did to Oreb and Zeeb. Do to their princes what you did to Zebah and Zalmunna. They said, “Let’s take for ourselves the pasturelands that belong to God.” My God, make them like tumbleweed, like chaff blown away by the wind. Be like a fire that burns a forest or like flames that blaze through the hills. Chase them with your storm, and frighten them with your wind. Cover them with shame. Then people will look for you, LORD. Make them afraid and ashamed forever. Disgrace them and destroy them. Then they will know that you are the LORD, that only you are God Most High over all the earth.
Psalms 83:9-18 American Standard Version (ASV)
Do thou unto them as unto Midian, As to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon; Who perished at Endor, Who became as dung for the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb; Yea, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna; Who said, Let us take to ourselves in possession The habitations of God. O my God, make them like the whirling dust; As stubble before the wind. As the fire that burneth the forest, And as the flame that setteth the mountains on fire, So pursue them with thy tempest, And terrify them with thy storm. Fill their faces with confusion, That they may seek thy name, O Jehovah. Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever; Yea, let them be confounded and perish; That they may know that thou alone, whose name is Jehovah, Art the Most High over all the earth.
Psalms 83:9-18 New International Version (NIV)
Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground. Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.” Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name. May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
Psalms 83:9-18 New King James Version (NKJV)
Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon, Who perished at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, Who said, “Let us take for ourselves The pastures of God for a possession.” O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like the chaff before the wind! As the fire burns the woods, And as the flame sets the mountains on fire, So pursue them with Your tempest, And frighten them with Your storm. Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O LORD. Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be put to shame and perish, That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth.
Psalms 83:9-18 Amplified Bible (AMP)
¶Deal with them as [You did] with Midian, As with Sisera and Jabin at the brook of Kishon, [Judg 4:12-24] Who were destroyed at En-dor, Who became like dung for the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb And all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, [Judg 7:23-25; 8:10-21] Who said, “Let us possess for ourselves The pastures of God.” ¶O my God, make them like whirling dust, Like chaff before the wind [worthless and without substance]. Like fire consumes the forest, And like the flame sets the mountains on fire, So pursue them with Your tempest And terrify them with [the violence of] Your storm. Fill their faces with shame and disgrace, That they may [persistently] seek Your name, O LORD. Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be humiliated and perish, That they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth.
Psalms 83:9-18 New Living Translation (NLT)
Do to them as you did to the Midianites and as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River. They were destroyed at Endor, and their decaying corpses fertilized the soil. Let their mighty nobles die as Oreb and Zeeb did. Let all their princes die like Zebah and Zalmunna, for they said, “Let us seize for our own use these pasturelands of God!” O my God, scatter them like tumbleweed, like chaff before the wind! As a fire burns a forest and as a flame sets mountains ablaze, chase them with your fierce storm; terrify them with your tempest. Utterly disgrace them until they submit to your name, O LORD. Let them be ashamed and terrified forever. Let them die in disgrace. Then they will learn that you alone are called the LORD, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth.
Psalms 83:9-18 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Do to them all what you did to the Midianites who were defeated by Gideon. Or what you did to Sisera and Jabin when Deborah and Barak defeated them by the Kishon River. Do to your enemies what you did at Endor, whose rotting corpses fertilized the land. Repeat history, God! Make all their “noble ones” die like Oreb, Zebah, and Zalmunna, who said in their pride, “We will seize God’s people along with all their pleasant lands!” Blow them away, God, like straw in the wind, like a tumbleweed in the wilderness! Burn them up like a raging fire roaring down the mountainside; consume them all until only charred sticks remain! Chase them away like before a mighty storm and terrifying tempest. O Lord, disgrace them until their faces fill with shame, and make them acknowledge the glory of your name. Make them utter failures in everything they do until they perish in total disgrace and humiliation, so they will know that you, and you alone, are YAHWEH, the only Most High God exalted over all the earth!
Psalms 83:9-18 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, who were destroyed at En-dor, who became dung for the ground. Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves of the pastures of God.” O my God, make them like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind. As fire consumes the forest, as the flame sets the mountains ablaze, so may you pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your hurricane! Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O LORD. Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever; let them perish in disgrace, that they may know that you alone, whose name is the LORD, are the Most High over all the earth.
