Psalms 59:14-17
Psalms 59:14-17 The Message (MSG)
They return when the sun goes down, They howl like coyotes, ringing the city. They scavenge for bones, And bite the hand that feeds them. And me? I’m singing your prowess, shouting at dawn your largesse, For you’ve been a safe place for me, a good place to hide. Strong God, I’m watching you do it, I can always count on you— God, my dependable love.
Psalms 59:14-17 King James Version (KJV)
And at evening let them return; And let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. Let them wander up and down for meat, And grudge if they be not satisfied. But I will sing of thy power; Yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: For thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: For God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.
Psalms 59:14-17 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
They return at evening, they howl like a dog, And go around the city. They wander about for food And growl if they are not satisfied. But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress. O my strength, I will sing praises to You; For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me lovingkindness.
Psalms 59:14-17 New Century Version (NCV)
They come back at night. Like dogs they growl and roam around the city. They wander about looking for food, and they howl if they do not find enough. But I will sing about your strength. In the morning I will sing about your love. You are my defender, my place of safety in times of trouble. God, my strength, I will sing praises to you. God, my defender, you are the God who loves me.
Psalms 59:14-17 American Standard Version (ASV)
And at evening let them return, let them howl like a dog, And go round about the city. They shall wander up and down for food, And tarry all night if they be not satisfied. But I will sing of thy strength; Yea, I will sing aloud of thy lovingkindness in the morning: For thou hast been my high tower, And a refuge in the day of my distress. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing praises: For God is my high tower, the God of my mercy.

They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city. They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied. And at evening they return, They growl like a dog, And go all around the city. They wander up and down for food, And howl if they are not satisfied. They return at evening, they howl and snarl like dogs, And go [prowling] around the city. They wander around for food [to devour] And growl all night if they are not satisfied. ¶But as for me, I will sing of Your mighty strength and power; Yes, I will sing joyfully of Your lovingkindness in the morning; For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress. To You, O [God] my strength, I will sing praises; For God is my stronghold [my refuge, my protector, my high tower], the God who shows me [steadfast] lovingkindness.
Psalms 59:14-17 New Living Translation (NLT)
My enemies come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets. They scavenge for food but go to sleep unsatisfied. But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress. O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.
Psalms 59:14-17 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Here they come again— prowling, growling like a pack of stray dogs in the city. Drifting, devouring, and coming in for the kill, they refuse to sleep until they’ve eaten their fill. But as for me, your strength shall be my song of joy. At each and every sunrise, my lyrics of your love will fill the air! For you have been my glory-fortress, a stronghold in my day of distress. O my strength, I sing with joy your praises. O my stronghold, I sing with joy your song! O my Savior, I sing with joy the lyrics of your faithful love for me!

Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill. But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.
