Psalms 44:17-22
Psalms 44:17-22 The Message (MSG)
All this came down on us, and we’ve done nothing to deserve it. We never betrayed your Covenant: our hearts were never false, our feet never left your path. Do we deserve torture in a den of jackals? or lockup in a black hole? If we had forgotten to pray to our God or made fools of ourselves with store-bought gods, Wouldn’t God have figured this out? We can’t hide things from him. No, you decided to make us martyrs, lambs assigned for sacrifice each day.
Psalms 44:17-22 King James Version (KJV)
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. Our heart is not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from thy way; Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, And covered us with the shadow of death. If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
Psalms 44:17-22 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
All this has come upon us, but we have not forgotten You, And we have not dealt falsely with Your covenant. Our heart has not turned back, And our steps have not deviated from Your way, Yet You have crushed us in a place of jackals And covered us with the shadow of death. If we had forgotten the name of our God Or extended our hands to a strange god, Would not God find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart. But for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
Psalms 44:17-22 New Century Version (NCV)
All these things have happened to us, but we have not forgotten you or failed to keep our agreement with you. Our hearts haven’t turned away from you, and we haven’t stopped following you. But you crushed us in this place where wild dogs live, and you covered us with deep darkness. If we had forgotten our God or lifted our hands in prayer to foreign gods, God would have known, because he knows what is in our hearts. But for you we are in danger of death all the time. People think we are worth no more than sheep to be killed.
Psalms 44:17-22 American Standard Version (ASV)
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. Our heart is not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from thy way, That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death. If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or spread forth our hands to a strange god; Will not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Psalms 44:17-22 New International Version (NIV)
All this came upon us, though we had not forgotten you; we had not been false to your covenant. Our hearts had not turned back; our feet had not strayed from your path. But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals; you covered us over with deep darkness. If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god, would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart? Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
Psalms 44:17-22 New King James Version (NKJV)
All this has come upon us; But we have not forgotten You, Nor have we dealt falsely with Your covenant. Our heart has not turned back, Nor have our steps departed from Your way; But You have severely broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death. If we had forgotten the name of our God, Or stretched out our hands to a foreign god, Would not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart. Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Psalms 44:17-22 Amplified Bible (AMP)
¶All this has come upon us, yet we have not forgotten You, Nor have we been false to Your covenant [which You made with our fathers]. Our heart has not turned back, Nor have our steps wandered from Your path, Yet You have [distressingly] crushed us in the place of jackals And covered us with [the deep darkness of] the shadow of death. ¶If we had forgotten the name of our God Or stretched out our hands to a strange god, Would not God discover this? For He knows the secrets of the heart. But for Your sake we are killed all the day long; We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. [Rom 8:35-39]
Psalms 44:17-22 New Living Translation (NLT)
All this has happened though we have not forgotten you. We have not violated your covenant. Our hearts have not deserted you. We have not strayed from your path. Yet you have crushed us in the jackal’s desert home. You have covered us with darkness and death. If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread our hands in prayer to foreign gods, God would surely have known it, for he knows the secrets of every heart. But for your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.
Psalms 44:17-22 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Despite all of this, we have not forgotten you; we have not broken covenant with you. We have not betrayed you; our hearts are still yours. Our steps have not strayed from your path. Yet you have crushed us, leaving us in this wilderness place of misery and desperation. With nowhere else to turn, death’s dark door seems to be the only way out. If we had forsaken your holy name, wouldn’t you know it? You’d be right in leaving us. If we had worshiped before other gods, no one would blame you for punishing us. God, you know our every heart-secret. You know we still want you! Because of you we face death threats every day. Like martyrs we are dying daily. We are seen as lambs lined up to be slaughtered as sacrifices.
Psalms 44:17-22 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten you, and we have not been false to your covenant. Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps departed from your way; yet you have broken us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death. If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god, would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart. Yet for your sake we are killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.
