Psalms 135:1-21

Psalms 135:1-21 Amplified Bible (AMP)

Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!) Praise the name of the LORD; Praise Him, O servants of the LORD (priests, Levites), You who stand in the house of the LORD, In the courts of the house of our God, Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; Sing praises to His name, for it is gracious and lovely. For the LORD has chosen [the descendants of] Jacob for Himself, Israel for His own special treasure and possession. [Deut 7:6] ¶For I know that the LORD is great And that our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the LORD pleases, He does, In the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all deeps— Who causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth; Who makes lightning for the rain, Who brings the wind from His storehouses; ¶Who struck the firstborn of Egypt, Both of man and animal; [Ex 12:12, 29; Ps 78:51; 136:10] Who sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, Upon Pharaoh and all his servants. Who struck many nations And killed mighty kings, Sihon, king of the Amorites, Og, king of Bashan, And all the kingdoms of Canaan; And He gave their land as a heritage, A heritage to Israel His people. Your name, O LORD, endures forever, Your fame and remembrance, O LORD, [endures] throughout all generations. For the LORD will judge His people And He will have compassion on His servants [revealing His mercy]. [Heb 10:30] The idols of the nations are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; They have eyes, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear, Nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make idols are like them [absolutely worthless—spiritually blind, deaf, and powerless]; So is everyone who trusts in and relies on them. [Ps 115:4-8] ¶O house of Israel, bless and praise the LORD [with gratitude]; O house of Aaron, bless the LORD; O house of Levi, bless the LORD; You who fear the LORD [and worship Him with obedience], bless the LORD [with grateful praise]! [Deut 6:5; Ps 31:23] Blessed be the LORD from Zion, Who dwells [with us] at Jerusalem. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)

Psalms 135:1-21 New Living Translation (NLT)

Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD! Praise him, you who serve the LORD, you who serve in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God. Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; celebrate his lovely name with music. For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel for his own special treasure. I know the greatness of the LORD— that our Lord is greater than any other god. The LORD does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths. He causes the clouds to rise over the whole earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses. He destroyed the firstborn in each Egyptian home, both people and animals. He performed miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt against Pharaoh and all his people. He struck down great nations and slaughtered mighty kings— Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kings of Canaan. He gave their land as an inheritance, a special possession to his people Israel. Your name, O LORD, endures forever; your fame, O LORD, is known to every generation. For the LORD will give justice to his people and have compassion on his servants. The idols of the nations are merely things of silver and gold, shaped by human hands. They have mouths but cannot speak, and eyes but cannot see. They have ears but cannot hear, and mouths but cannot breathe. And those who make idols are just like them, as are all who trust in them. O Israel, praise the LORD! O priests—descendants of Aaron—praise the LORD! O Levites, praise the LORD! All you who fear the LORD, praise the LORD! The LORD be praised from Zion, for he lives here in Jerusalem.

Psalms 135:1-21 The Message (MSG)

Hallelujah! Praise the name of GOD, praise the works of GOD. All you priests on duty in GOD’s temple, serving in the sacred halls of our God, Shout “Hallelujah!” because GOD’s so good, sing anthems to his beautiful name. And why? Because GOD chose Jacob, embraced Israel as a prize possession. I, too, give witness to the greatness of GOD, our Lord, high above all other gods. He does just as he pleases— however, wherever, whenever. He makes the weather—clouds and thunder, lightning and rain, wind pouring out of the north. He struck down the Egyptian firstborn, both human and animal firstborn. He made Egypt sit up and take notice, confronted Pharaoh and his servants with miracles. Yes, he struck down great nations, he slew mighty kings— Sihon king of the Amorites, also Og of Bashan— every last one of the Canaanite kings! Then he turned their land over to Israel, a gift of good land to his people. GOD, your name is eternal, GOD, you’ll never be out-of-date. GOD stands up for his people, GOD holds the hands of his people. The gods of the godless nations are mere trinkets, made for quick sale in the markets: Chiseled mouths that can’t talk, painted eyes that can’t see, Carved ears that can’t hear— dead wood! cold metal! Those who make and trust them become like them. Family of Israel, bless GOD! Family of Aaron, bless GOD! Family of Levi, bless GOD! You who fear GOD, bless GOD! Oh, blessed be GOD of Zion, First Citizen of Jerusalem! Hallelujah!

Psalms 135:1-21 King James Version (KJV)

Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the name of the LORD; Praise him, O ye servants of the LORD. Ye that stand in the house of the LORD, In the courts of the house of our God, Praise the LORD; for the LORD is good: Sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant. For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, And Israel for his peculiar treasure. For I know that the LORD is great, And that our Lord is above all gods. Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, In the seas, and all deep places. He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; He maketh lightnings for the rain; He bringeth the wind out of his treasuries. Who smote the firstborn of Egypt, Both of man and beast. Who sent tokens and wonders into the midst of thee, O Egypt, Upon Pharaoh, and upon all his servants. Who smote great nations, And slew mighty kings; Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, And all the kingdoms of Canaan: And gave their land for an heritage, An heritage unto Israel his people. Thy name, O LORD, endureth for ever; And thy memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations. For the LORD will judge his people, And he will repent himself concerning his servants. The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; Eyes have they, but they see not; They have ears, but they hear not; Neither is there any breath in their mouths. They that make them are like unto them: So is every one that trusteth in them. Bless the LORD, O house of Israel: Bless the LORD, O house of Aaron: Bless the LORD, O house of Levi: Ye that fear the LORD, bless the LORD. Blessed be the LORD out of Zion, Which dwelleth at Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD.

Psalms 135:1-21 New Century Version (NCV)

Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD; praise him, you servants of the LORD, you who stand in the LORD’s Temple and in the Temple courtyards. Praise the LORD, because he is good; sing praises to him, because it is pleasant. The LORD has chosen the people of Jacob for himself; he has chosen the people of Israel for his very own. I know that the LORD is great. Our Lord is greater than all the gods. The LORD does what he pleases, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and the deep oceans. He brings the clouds from the ends of the earth. He sends the lightning with the rain. He brings out the wind from his storehouses. He destroyed the firstborn sons in Egypt the firstborn of both people and animals. He did many signs and miracles in Egypt against the king and his servants. He defeated many nations and killed powerful kings: Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kings of Canaan. Then he gave their land as a gift, a gift to his people, the Israelites. LORD, your name is everlasting; LORD, you will be remembered forever. The LORD defends his people and has mercy on his servants. The idols of other nations are made of silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but they cannot speak. They have eyes, but they cannot see. They have ears, but they cannot hear. They have no breath in their mouths. People who make idols will be like them, and so will those who trust them. Family of Israel, praise the LORD. Family of Aaron, praise the LORD. Family of Levi, praise the LORD. You who respect the LORD should praise him. You people of Jerusalem, praise the LORD on Mount Zion. Praise the LORD!

Psalms 135:1-21 The Passion Translation (TPT)

Shout hallelujah and praise the greatness of God! All his righteous ones, praise him! All you worshiping priests on duty in the temple, praise him, for he is beautiful! Sing loving praises to his lovely name. For YAHWEH has chosen Jacob for his own purpose, and Israel is his special treasure. Next to every other god, the greatness of our God is unequaled. For our God is incomparable! He does what he pleases with unlimited power and authority, extending his greatness throughout the entire universe! He forms the misty clouds and creates thunder and lightning, bringing the wind and rain out of his heavenly storehouse. He struck down the eldest child in each Egyptian home; both man and beast perished that night. He did great miracles—mighty signs and wonders throughout the land before Pharaoh and all his subjects. He conquered many nations and killed their mighty kings, like Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan, and kings from every kingdom in Canaan. He gave their land to Israel as an inheritance for his people. O  YAHWEH, your name endures forever! Your fame is known in every generation. For you will vindicate your persecuted people, showing your tender love to all your servants. The unbelieving nations worship what they make. They worship their wealth and their work. They idolize what they own and what they do. Their possessions will never satisfy. Their lifeless and futile works cannot bring life to them! Their things can’t talk to them or answer their prayers. Blind men can only create blind things. Those deaf to God can only make a deaf image. Dead men can only create dead idols. And everyone who trusts in these powerless, dead things will be just like what they worship—powerless and dead! Praise Lord YAHWEH, all the families of Israel! Praise Lord YAHWEH, you family of Aaron! Let all the priests bless Lord YAHWEH! Let all his lovers who bow low before him praise the Lord YAHWEH! So bless the Lord YAHWEH who lives in Jerusalem and dwells in Zion’s glory! Hallelujah and praise the Lord!

Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD, give praise, O servants of the LORD, who stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God!
