Proverbs 14:33-35
Proverbs 14:33-35 The Message (MSG)
Lady Wisdom is at home in an understanding heart— fools never even get to say hello. God-devotion makes a country strong; God-avoidance leaves people weak. Diligent work gets a warm commendation; shiftless work earns an angry rebuke.
Proverbs 14:33-35 King James Version (KJV)
Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: But that which is in the midst of fools is made known. Righteousness exalteth a nation: But sin is a reproach to any people. The king's favour is toward a wise servant: But his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
Proverbs 14:33-35 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, But in the hearts of fools it is made known. Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people. The king’s favor is toward a servant who acts wisely, But his anger is toward him who acts shamefully.
Proverbs 14:33-35 New Century Version (NCV)
Wisdom lives in those with understanding, and even fools recognize it. Doing what is right makes a nation great, but sin will bring disgrace to any people. A king is pleased with a wise servant, but he will become angry with one who causes him shame.
Proverbs 14:33-35 American Standard Version (ASV)
Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding; But that which is in the inward part of fools is made known. Righteousness exalteth a nation; But sin is a reproach to any people. The king’s favor is toward a servant that dealeth wisely; But his wrath will be against him that causeth shame.
Proverbs 14:33-35 New International Version (NIV)
Wisdom reposes in the heart of the discerning and even among fools she lets herself be known. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people. A king delights in a wise servant, but a shameful servant arouses his fury.
Proverbs 14:33-35 New King James Version (NKJV)
Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding, But what is in the heart of fools is made known. Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people. The king’s favor is toward a wise servant, But his wrath is against him who causes shame.
Proverbs 14:33-35 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Wisdom rests [silently] in the heart of one who has understanding, But what is in the heart of [shortsighted] fools is made known. [Is 32:6] Righteousness [moral and spiritual integrity and virtuous character] exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people. The king’s favor and good will are toward a servant who acts wisely and discreetly, But his anger and wrath are toward him who acts shamefully. [Matt 24:45, 47]
Proverbs 14:33-35 New Living Translation (NLT)
Wisdom is enshrined in an understanding heart; wisdom is not found among fools. Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people. A king rejoices in wise servants but is angry with those who disgrace him.
Proverbs 14:33-35 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Wisdom soothes the heart of the one with living-understanding, but the heart of the fool just stockpiles stupidity. A nation is exalted by the righteousness of its people, but sin heaps disgrace upon the land. A wise and faithful servant receives promotion from the king, but the one who acts disgracefully gets to taste the anger of the king.
Proverbs 14:33-35 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
Wisdom rests in the heart of a man of understanding, but it makes itself known even in the midst of fools. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. A servant who deals wisely has the king’s favor, but his wrath falls on one who acts shamefully.
