Romans 6:6-7,18
Romans 6:6-7 New Century Version (NCV)
We know that our old life died with Christ on the cross so that our sinful selves would have no power over us and we would not be slaves to sin. Anyone who has died is made free from sin’s control.
Romans 6:18 New Century Version (NCV)
You were made free from sin, and now you are slaves to goodness.
Romans 6:6-11 The Message (MSG)
Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life—no longer captive to sin’s demands! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us. From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You are dead to sin and alive to God. That’s what Jesus did.
Romans 6:15-18 The Message (MSG)
So, since we’re out from under the old tyranny, does that mean we can live any old way we want? Since we’re free in the freedom of God, can we do anything that comes to mind? Hardly. You know well enough from your own experience that there are some acts of so-called freedom that destroy freedom. Offer yourselves to sin, for instance, and it’s your last free act. But offer yourselves to the ways of God and the freedom never quits. All your lives you’ve let sin tell you what to do. But thank God you’ve started listening to a new master, one whose commands set you free to live openly in his freedom!
Romans 6:6-7 King James Version (KJV)
knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Romans 6:18 King James Version (KJV)
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Romans 6:6-7 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.
Romans 6:18 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
Romans 6:6-7 American Standard Version (ASV)
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin; for he that hath died is justified from sin.
Romans 6:18 American Standard Version (ASV)
and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness.
Romans 6:6-7 New International Version (NIV)
For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
Romans 6:18 New International Version (NIV)
You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
Romans 6:6-7 New King James Version (NKJV)
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.
Romans 6:18 New King James Version (NKJV)
And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
Romans 6:6-7 Amplified Bible (AMP)
We know that our old self [our human nature without the Holy Spirit] was nailed to the cross with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. For the person who has died [with Christ] has been freed from [the power of] sin.
Romans 6:18 Amplified Bible (AMP)
And having been set free from sin, you have become the slaves of righteousness [of conformity to God’s will and purpose].
Romans 6:6-7 New Living Translation (NLT)
We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
Romans 6:18 New Living Translation (NLT)
Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.
Romans 6:6-7 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Could it be any clearer that our former identity is now and forever deprived of its power? For we were co-crucified with him to dismantle the stronghold of sin within us, so that we would not continue to live one moment longer submitted to sin’s power. Obviously, a dead person is incapable of sinning.
Romans 6:18 The Passion Translation (TPT)
And now you celebrate your freedom from your former master—sin. You’ve left its bondage, and now God’s perfect righteousness holds power over you as his loving servants.
