Romans 3:6,31
Romans 3:2-6 The Message (MSG)
First, there’s the matter of being put in charge of writing down and caring for God’s revelation, these Holy Scriptures. So, what if, in the course of doing that, some of those Jews abandoned their post? God didn’t abandon them. Do you think their faithlessness cancels out his faithfulness? Not on your life! Depend on it: God keeps his word even when the whole world is lying through its teeth. Scripture says the same: Your words stand fast and true; Rejection doesn’t faze you. But if our wrongdoing only underlines and confirms God’s rightdoing, shouldn’t we be commended for helping out? Since our lies don’t even make a dent in his truth, isn’t it wrong of God to back us to the wall and hold us to our word? These questions come up. The answer to such questions is no, a most emphatic No! How else would things ever get straightened out if God didn’t do the straightening?
Romans 3:31 The Message (MSG)
But by shifting our focus from what we do to what God does, don’t we cancel out all our careful keeping of the rules and ways God commanded? Not at all. What happens, in fact, is that by putting that entire way of life in its proper place, we confirm it.
Romans 3:6 King James Version (KJV)
God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
Romans 3:31 King James Version (KJV)
Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
Romans 3:6 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
May it never be! For otherwise, how will God judge the world?
Romans 3:31 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.
Romans 3:6 New Century Version (NCV)
No! If God could not punish us, he could not judge the world.
Romans 3:31 New Century Version (NCV)
So do we destroy the law by following the way of faith? No! Faith causes us to be what the law truly wants.
Romans 3:6 American Standard Version (ASV)
God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
Romans 3:31 American Standard Version (ASV)
Do we then make the law of none effect through faith? God forbid: nay, we establish the law.
Romans 3:6 New International Version (NIV)
Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world?
Romans 3:31 New International Version (NIV)
Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.
Romans 3:6 New King James Version (NKJV)
Certainly not! For then how will God judge the world?
Romans 3:31 New King James Version (NKJV)
Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.
Romans 3:6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Certainly not! For otherwise, how will God judge the world?
Romans 3:31 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Do we then nullify the Law by this faith [making the Law of no effect, overthrowing it]? Certainly not! On the contrary, we confirm and establish and uphold the Law [since it convicts us all of sin, pointing to the need for salvation].
Romans 3:6 New Living Translation (NLT)
Of course not! If God were not entirely fair, how would he be qualified to judge the world?
Romans 3:31 New Living Translation (NLT)
Well then, if we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.
Romans 3:6 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Absolutely not! For if that were the case, how could God be the righteous judge of all the earth?
Romans 3:31 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Does emphasizing our faith invalidate the law? Absolutely not. Instead, our faith establishes the role the law should rightfully have.
