Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name.

O my God, make them like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind. As fire consumes the forest, as the flame sets the mountains ablaze, so may you pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your hurricane! Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O LORD.

O my God, scatter them like tumbleweed, like chaff before the wind! As a fire burns a forest and as a flame sets mountains ablaze, chase them with your fierce storm; terrify them with your tempest. Utterly disgrace them until they submit to your name, O LORD.

Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like straw before the wind.  As fire burns a forest, as a flame blazes through mountains,  so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.  Cover their faces with shame so that they will seek your name,  LORD.

O my God, make them like a wheel; As the stubble before the wind. As the fire burneth a wood, And as the flame setteth the mountains on fire; So persecute them with thy tempest, And make them afraid with thy storm. Fill their faces with shame; That they may seek thy name, O LORD.

O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like the chaff before the wind! As the fire burns the woods, And as the flame sets the mountains on fire, So pursue them with Your tempest, And frighten them with Your storm. Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O LORD.

My God! I’ve had it with them! Blow them away! Tumbleweeds in the desert waste, charred sticks in the burned-over ground. Knock the breath right out of them, so they’re gasping for breath, gasping, “GOD.” Bring them to the end of their rope, and leave them there dangling, helpless. Then they’ll learn your name: “GOD,” the one and only High God on earth.

¶My God, make them like the whirling dust, Like chaff before the wind. Like fire that burns the forest, And like a flame that sets the mountains on fire, So pursue them with Your heavy gale, And terrify them with Your storm. Fill their faces with dishonor, So that they will seek Your name, LORD.

¶O my God, make them like whirling dust, Like chaff before the wind [worthless and without substance]. Like fire consumes the forest, And like the flame sets the mountains on fire, So pursue them with Your tempest And terrify them with [the violence of] Your storm. Fill their faces with shame and disgrace, That they may [persistently] seek Your name, O LORD.

O my God, make them like dead thistles, like dead weeds blown away by the wind! Like the fire that burns down the forest, or the flames that consume the mountainsides, chase them with your gale winds, and terrify them with your windstorm. Cover their faces with shame, so they might seek you, O LORD.
