Proverbs 13:22-25
Proverbs 13:22-25 The Message (MSG)
A good life gets passed on to the grandchildren; ill-gotten wealth ends up with good people. Banks foreclose on the farms of the poor, or else the poor lose their shirts to crooked lawyers. A refusal to correct is a refusal to love; love your children by disciplining them. An appetite for good brings much satisfaction, but the belly of the wicked always wants more.
Proverbs 13:22-25 King James Version (KJV)
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. Much food is in the tillage of the poor: But there is that is destroyed for want of judgment. He that spareth his rod hateth his son: But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: But the belly of the wicked shall want.
Proverbs 13:22-25 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. Abundant food is in the fallow ground of the poor, But it is swept away by injustice. He who withholds his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently. The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite, But the stomach of the wicked is in need.
Proverbs 13:22-25 New Century Version (NCV)
Good people leave their wealth to their grandchildren, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for good people. A poor person’s field might produce plenty of food, but others often steal it away. If you do not punish your children, you don’t love them, but if you love your children, you will correct them. Good people have enough to eat, but the wicked will go hungry.
Proverbs 13:22-25 American Standard Version (ASV)
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children; And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous. Much food is in the tillage of the poor; But there is that is destroyed by reason of injustice. He that spareth his rod hateth his son; But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; But the belly of the wicked shall want.
Proverbs 13:22-25 New International Version (NIV)
A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. An unplowed field produces food for the poor, but injustice sweeps it away. Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. The righteous eat to their hearts’ content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry.
Proverbs 13:22-25 New King James Version (NKJV)
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. Much food is in the fallow ground of the poor, And for lack of justice there is waste. He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly. The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul, But the stomach of the wicked shall be in want.
Proverbs 13:22-25 Amplified Bible (AMP)
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for [the hands of] the righteous. Abundant food is in the fallow (uncultivated) ground of the poor, But [without protection] it is swept away by injustice. He who withholds the rod [of discipline] hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines and trains him diligently and appropriately [with wisdom and love]. [Prov 19:18; 22:15; 23:13; 29:15, 17; Eph 6:4] The [consistently] righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite, But the stomach of the wicked is in need [of bread].
Proverbs 13:22-25 New Living Translation (NLT)
Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren, but the sinner’s wealth passes to the godly. A poor person’s farm may produce much food, but injustice sweeps it all away. Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them. The godly eat to their hearts’ content, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
Proverbs 13:22-25 The Passion Translation (TPT)
The benevolent man leaves an inheritance that endures to his children’s children, but the wealth of the wicked is treasured up for the righteous. The lovers of God will live a long life and get to enjoy their wealth, but the ungodly will suddenly perish. If you withhold correction and punishment from your children, you demonstrate a lack of true love. So prove your love and be prompt to punish them. The lovers of God will have more than enough, but the wicked will always lack what they crave.
Proverbs 13:22-25 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous. The fallow ground of the poor would yield much food, but it is swept away through injustice. Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him. The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite, but the belly of the wicked suffers want.
