Proverbs 12:1-5
Proverbs 12:1-5 The Message (MSG)
If you love learning, you love the discipline that goes with it— how shortsighted to refuse correction! A good person basks in the delight of GOD, and he wants nothing to do with devious schemers. You can’t find firm footing in a swamp, but life rooted in God stands firm. A hearty wife invigorates her husband, but a frigid woman is cancer in the bones. The thinking of principled people makes for justice; the plots of degenerates corrupt.
Proverbs 12:1-5 King James Version (KJV)
Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: But he that hateth reproof is brutish. A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: But a man of wicked devices will he condemn. A man shall not be established by wickedness: But the root of the righteous shall not be moved. A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: But she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. The thoughts of the righteous are right: But the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
Proverbs 12:1-5 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, But he who hates reproof is stupid. A good man will obtain favor from the LORD, But He will condemn a man who devises evil. A man will not be established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous will not be moved. An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones. The thoughts of the righteous are just, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.
Proverbs 12:1-5 New Century Version (NCV)
Anyone who loves learning accepts correction, but a person who hates being corrected is stupid. The LORD is pleased with a good person, but he will punish anyone who plans evil. Doing evil brings no safety at all, but a good person has safety and security. A good wife is like a crown for her husband, but a disgraceful wife is like a disease in his bones. The plans that good people make are fair, but the advice of the wicked will trick you.
Proverbs 12:1-5 American Standard Version (ASV)
Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; But he that hateth reproof is brutish. A good man shall obtain favor of Jehovah; But a man of wicked devices will he condemn. A man shall not be established by wickedness; But the root of the righteous shall not be moved. A worthy woman is the crown of her husband; But she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. The thoughts of the righteous are just; But the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
Proverbs 12:1-5 New International Version (NIV)
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid. Good people obtain favor from the LORD, but he condemns those who devise wicked schemes. No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted. A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.
Proverbs 12:1-5 New King James Version (NKJV)
Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid. A good man obtains favor from the LORD, But a man of wicked intentions He will condemn. A man is not established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous cannot be moved. An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones. The thoughts of the righteous are right, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.
Proverbs 12:1-5 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Whoever loves instruction and discipline loves knowledge, But he who hates reproof and correction is stupid. A good man will obtain favor from the LORD, But He will condemn a man who devises evil. A man will not be established by wickedness, But the root of the [consistently] righteous will not be moved. A virtuous and excellent wife [worthy of honor] is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him [with her foolishness] is like rottenness in his bones. [Prov 31:23; 1 Cor 11:7] The thoughts and purposes of the [consistently] righteous are just (honest, reliable), But the counsels and schemes of the wicked are deceitful.
Proverbs 12:1-5 New Living Translation (NLT)
To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction. The LORD approves of those who are good, but he condemns those who plan wickedness. Wickedness never brings stability, but the godly have deep roots. A worthy wife is a crown for her husband, but a disgraceful woman is like cancer in his bones. The plans of the godly are just; the advice of the wicked is treacherous.
Proverbs 12:1-5 The Passion Translation (TPT)
To learn the truth you must long to be teachable, or you can despise correction and remain ignorant. If your heart is right, favor flows from the Lord, but a devious heart invites his condemnation. You can’t expect success by doing what’s wrong. But the lives of his lovers are deeply rooted and firmly planted. The integrity and strength of a virtuous wife transforms her husband into an honored king. But the wife who disgraces her husband weakens the strength of his identity. The lovers of God are filled with good ideas that are noble and pure, but the schemes of the sinner are crammed with nothing but lies.
Proverbs 12:1-5 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. A good man obtains favor from the LORD, but a man of evil devices he condemns. No one is established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will never be moved. An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones. The thoughts of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.
