Matthew 7:7,12-14
Matthew 7:7-11 The Message (MSG)
“Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This isn’t a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing. You’re at least decent to your own children. So don’t you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better?
Matthew 7:12-13-14 The Message (MSG)
“Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God’s Law and Prophets and this is what you get. “Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention.
Matthew 7:7 King James Version (KJV)
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you
Matthew 7:12-14 King James Version (KJV)
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:7 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:12-14 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets. “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Matthew 7:7 New Century Version (NCV)
“Ask, and God will give to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will open for you.
Matthew 7:12-14 New Century Version (NCV)
“Do to others what you want them to do to you. This is the meaning of the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets. “Enter through the narrow gate. The gate is wide and the road is wide that leads to hell, and many people enter through that gate. But the gate is small and the road is narrow that leads to true life. Only a few people find that road.
Matthew 7:7 American Standard Version (ASV)
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you
Matthew 7:12-14 American Standard Version (ASV)
All things therefore whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so do ye also unto them: for this is the law and the prophets. Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby. For narrow is the gate, and straitened the way, that leadeth unto life, and few are they that find it.
Matthew 7:7 New International Version (NIV)
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:12-14 New International Version (NIV)
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Matthew 7:7 New King James Version (NKJV)
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:12-14 New King James Version (NKJV)
Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Matthew 7:7 Amplified Bible (AMP)
“ Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you. [Luke 11:9-13]
Matthew 7:12-14 Amplified Bible (AMP)
“So then, in everything treat others the same way you want them to treat you, for this is [the essence of]the Law and the [writings of the] Prophets. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad and easy to travel is the path that leads the way to destruction and eternal loss, and there are many who enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow and difficult to travel is the path that leads the way to [everlasting]life, and there are few who find it. [Deut 30:19; Jer 21:8]
Matthew 7:7 New Living Translation (NLT)
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:12-14 New Living Translation (NLT)
“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.
Matthew 7:7 The Passion Translation (TPT)
“Ask, and the gift is yours. Seek, and you’ll discover. Knock, and the door will be opened for you.
Matthew 7:12-14 The Passion Translation (TPT)
“In everything you do, be careful to treat others in the same way you’d want them to treat you, for that is the essence of all the teachings of the Law and the Prophets. Enter through the narrow gate because the wide gate and broad path is the way that leads to destruction—nearly everyone chooses that crowded road! The narrow gate and the difficult way leads to eternal life—so few even find it!”
Matthew 7:7 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:12-14 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
