Lamentations 4:16-18
Lamentations 4:16-18 The Message (MSG)
GOD himself scattered them. No longer does he look out for them. He has nothing to do with the priests; he cares nothing for the elders. We watched and watched, wore our eyes out looking for help. And nothing. We mounted our lookouts and looked for the help that never showed up. They tracked us down, those hunters. It wasn’t safe to go out in the street. Our end was near, our days numbered. We were doomed.
Lamentations 4:16-18 King James Version (KJV)
The anger of the LORD hath divided them; He will no more regard them: They respected not the persons of the priests, They favoured not the elders. As for us, our eyes as yet failed For our vain help: In our watching we have watched For a nation that could not save us. They hunt our steps, That we cannot go in our streets: Our end is near, our days are fulfilled; For our end is come.
Lamentations 4:16-18 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
The presence of the LORD has scattered them, He will not continue to regard them; They did not honor the priests, They did not favor the elders. Yet our eyes failed, Looking for help was useless; In our watching we have watched For a nation that could not save. They hunted our steps So that we could not walk in our streets; Our end drew near, Our days were finished For our end had come.
Lamentations 4:16-18 New Century Version (NCV)
The LORD himself scattered them and did not look after them anymore. No one respects the priests or honors the elders. Also, our eyes grew tired, looking for help that never came. We kept watch from our towers for a nation to save us. Our enemies hunted us, so we could not even walk in the streets. Our end is near. Our time is up. Our end has come.
Lamentations 4:16-18 American Standard Version (ASV)
The anger of Jehovah hath scattered them; he will no more regard them: They respected not the persons of the priests, they favored not the elders. Our eyes do yet fail in looking for our vain help: In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save. They hunt our steps, so that we cannot go in our streets: Our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.
Lamentations 4:16-18 New International Version (NIV)
The LORD himself has scattered them; he no longer watches over them. The priests are shown no honor, the elders no favor. Moreover, our eyes failed, looking in vain for help; from our towers we watched for a nation that could not save us. People stalked us at every step, so we could not walk in our streets. Our end was near, our days were numbered, for our end had come.
Lamentations 4:16-18 New King James Version (NKJV)
The face of the LORD scattered them; He no longer regards them. The people do not respect the priests Nor show favor to the elders. Still our eyes failed us, Watching vainly for our help; In our watching we watched For a nation that could not save us. They tracked our steps So that we could not walk in our streets. Our end was near; Our days were over, For our end had come.
Lamentations 4:16-18 Amplified Bible (AMP)
The presence of the LORD scattered them [among the nations]; He will not continue to look after them. They did not honor the priests; They did not favor the elders. [And as for us,] yet our eyes failed, Looking in vain for help. Watching [from the towers] we watched For a nation that could not save. [Ezek 29:16] The enemy hunted our steps, So that we could not walk in our streets; Our end drew near, Our days were finished For our end had come.
Lamentations 4:16-18 New Living Translation (NLT)
The LORD himself has scattered them, and he no longer helps them. People show no respect for the priests and no longer honor the leaders. We looked in vain for our allies to come and save us, but we were looking to nations that could not help us. We couldn’t go into the streets without danger to our lives. Our end was near; our days were numbered. We were doomed!
Lamentations 4:16-18 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
The LORD himself has scattered them; he will regard them no more; no honor was shown to the priests, no favor to the elders. Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; in our watching we watched for a nation which could not save. They dogged our steps so that we could not walk in our streets; our end drew near; our days were numbered, for our end had come.
