John 5:16-17
John 5:15-17 The Message (MSG)
The man went back and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. That is why the Jews were out to get Jesus—because he did this kind of thing on the Sabbath. But Jesus defended himself. “My Father is working straight through, even on the Sabbath. So am I.”
John 5:16-17 King James Version (KJV)
And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
John 5:16-17 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
For this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.”
John 5:16-17 New Century Version (NCV)
Because Jesus was doing this on the Sabbath day, some evil people began to persecute him. But Jesus said to them, “My Father never stops working, and so I keep working, too.”
John 5:16-17 American Standard Version (ASV)
And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work.
John 5:16-17 New International Version (NIV)
So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”
John 5:16-17 New King James Version (NKJV)
For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”
John 5:16-17 Amplified Bible (AMP)
For this reason the Jews began to persecute Jesus continually because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now [He has never ceased working], and I too am working.”
John 5:16-17 New Living Translation (NLT)
So the Jewish leaders began harassing Jesus for breaking the Sabbath rules. But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.”
