Ecclesiastes 9:16-17
Ecclesiastes 9:16-17 The Message (MSG)
All the same, I still say that wisdom is better than muscle, even though the wise poor man was treated with contempt and soon forgotten. The quiet words of the wise are more effective Than the ranting of a king of fools.
Ecclesiastes 9:16-17 King James Version (KJV)
Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
Ecclesiastes 9:16-17 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
So I said, “Wisdom is better than strength.” But the wisdom of the poor man is despised and his words are not heeded. The words of the wise heard in quietness are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.
Ecclesiastes 9:16-17 New Century Version (NCV)
I still think wisdom is better than strength. But those people forgot about the poor man’s wisdom and stopped listening to what he said. The quiet words of a wise person are better than the shouts of a foolish ruler.
Ecclesiastes 9:16-17 American Standard Version (ASV)
Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
Ecclesiastes 9:16-17 New International Version (NIV)
So I said, “Wisdom is better than strength.” But the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded. The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools.
Ecclesiastes 9:16-17 New King James Version (NKJV)
Then I said: “Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard. Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard Rather than the shout of a ruler of fools.
Ecclesiastes 9:16-17 Amplified Bible (AMP)
But I say that wisdom is better than strength, though the poor man’s wisdom is despised and his words are not heeded. The words of wise men heard in quietness are better than the shouting of one who rules among fools.
Ecclesiastes 9:16-17 New Living Translation (NLT)
So even though wisdom is better than strength, those who are wise will be despised if they are poor. What they say will not be appreciated for long. Better to hear the quiet words of a wise person than the shouts of a foolish king.
