1 Timothy 5:23-24
1 Timothy 5:23-24 American Standard Version (ASV)
Be no longer a drinker of water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities. Some men’s sins are evident, going before unto judgment; and some men also they follow after.
1 Timothy 5:21-25 The Message (MSG)
God and Jesus and angels all back me up in these instructions. Carry them out without favoritism, without taking sides. Don’t appoint people to church leadership positions too hastily. If a person is involved in some serious sins, you don’t want to become an unwitting accomplice. In any event, keep a close check on yourself. And don’t worry too much about what the critics will say. Go ahead and drink a little wine, for instance; it’s good for your digestion, good medicine for what ails you. The sins of some people are blatant and march them right into court. The sins of others don’t show up until much later. The same with good deeds. Some you see right off, but none are hidden forever.
1 Timothy 5:23-24 King James Version (KJV)
Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
1 Timothy 5:23-24 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments. The sins of some men are quite evident, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins follow after.
1 Timothy 5:23-24 New Century Version (NCV)
Stop drinking only water, but drink a little wine to help your stomach and your frequent sicknesses. The sins of some people are easy to see even before they are judged, but the sins of others are seen only later.
1 Timothy 5:23-24 New International Version (NIV)
Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses. The sins of some are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them.
1 Timothy 5:23-24 New King James Version (NKJV)
No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities. Some men’s sins are clearly evident, preceding them to judgment, but those of some men follow later.
1 Timothy 5:23-24 Amplified Bible (AMP)
No longer continue drinking [only] water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent illnesses. The sins of some people are conspicuous, leading the way for them into judgment [so that they are clearly not qualified for ministry]; but the sins of others appear later [for they are hidden and follow behind them].
1 Timothy 5:23-24 New Living Translation (NLT)
Don’t drink only water. You ought to drink a little wine for the sake of your stomach because you are sick so often. Remember, the sins of some people are obvious, leading them to certain judgment. But there are others whose sins will not be revealed until later.
1 Timothy 5:23-24 The Passion Translation (TPT)
(If drinking the water causes you to have stomach ailments, drink some wine instead.) The sins of some people stand out and are well known. Yet there are others whose sins are not as obvious, but the truth of who they really are will eventually be seen and will bring them judgment.
