1 John 4:12,18
1 John 4:11-12 The Message (MSG)
My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other. No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us—perfect love!
1 John 4:17-18 The Message (MSG)
God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day—our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love.
1 John 4:12 King James Version (KJV)
No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
1 John 4:18 King James Version (KJV)
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1 John 4:12 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us.
1 John 4:18 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
1 John 4:12 New Century Version (NCV)
No one has ever seen God, but if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is made perfect in us.
1 John 4:18 New Century Version (NCV)
Where God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love drives out fear. It is punishment that makes a person fear, so love is not made perfect in the person who fears.
1 John 4:12 American Standard Version (ASV)
No man hath beheld God at any time: if we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us
1 John 4:18 American Standard Version (ASV)
There is no fear in love: but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath punishment; and he that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1 John 4:12 New International Version (NIV)
No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
1 John 4:18 New International Version (NIV)
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
1 John 4:12 New King James Version (NKJV)
No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.
I John 4:18 New King James Version (NKJV)
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
1 John 4:12 Amplified Bible (AMP)
No one has seen God at any time. But if we love one another [with unselfish concern], God abides in us, and His love [the love that is His essence abides in us and] is completed and perfected in us.
1 John 4:18 Amplified Bible (AMP)
There is no fear in love [dread does not exist]. But perfect (complete, full-grown) love drives out fear, because fear involves [the expectation of divine] punishment, so the one who is afraid [of God’s judgment] is not perfected in love [has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God’s love].
1 John 4:12 New Living Translation (NLT)
No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.
1 John 4:18 New Living Translation (NLT)
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
1 John 4:12 The Passion Translation (TPT)
No one has ever gazed upon the fullness of God’s splendor. But if we love one another, God makes his permanent home in us, and we make our permanent home in him, and his love is brought to its full expression in us.
1 John 4:18 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Love never brings fear, for fear is always related to punishment. But love’s perfection drives the fear of punishment far from our hearts. Whoever walks constantly afraid of punishment has not reached love’s perfection.
1 John 4:12 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
