1 Corinthians 7:26,29-31
1 Corinthians 7:26 King James Version (KJV)
I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 King James Version (KJV)
But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; and they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; and they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
1 Corinthians 7:26 New Living Translation (NLT)
Because of the present crisis, I think it is best to remain as you are.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 New Living Translation (NLT)
But let me say this, dear brothers and sisters: The time that remains is very short. So from now on, those with wives should not focus only on their marriage. Those who weep or who rejoice or who buy things should not be absorbed by their weeping or their joy or their possessions. Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away.
1 Corinthians 7:26 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
I think that in view of the present distress it is good for a person to remain as he is.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.
1 Corinthians 7:25-28 The Message (MSG)
The Master did not give explicit direction regarding virgins, but as one much experienced in the mercy of the Master and loyal to him all the way, you can trust my counsel. Because of the current pressures on us from all sides, I think it would probably be best to stay just as you are. Are you married? Stay married. Are you unmarried? Don’t get married. But there’s certainly no sin in getting married, whether you’re a virgin or not. All I am saying is that when you marry, you take on additional stress in an already stressful time, and I want to spare you if possible.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31-29-31 The Message (MSG)
I do want to point out, friends, that time is of the essence. There is no time to waste, so don’t complicate your lives unnecessarily. Keep it simple—in marriage, grief, joy, whatever. Even in ordinary things—your daily routines of shopping, and so on. Deal as sparingly as possible with the things the world thrusts on you. This world as you see it is fading away.
1 Corinthians 7:26 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
I think then that this is good in view of the present distress, that it is good for a man to remain as he is.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
But this I say, brethren, the time has been shortened, so that from now on those who have wives should be as though they had none; and those who weep, as though they did not weep; and those who rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and those who buy, as though they did not possess; and those who use the world, as though they did not make full use of it; for the form of this world is passing away.
1 Corinthians 7:26 New Century Version (NCV)
The present time is a time of trouble, so I think it is good for you to stay the way you are.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 New Century Version (NCV)
Brothers and sisters, this is what I mean: We do not have much time left. So starting now, those who have wives should live as if they had no wives. Those who are crying should live as if they were not crying. Those who are happy should live as if they were not happy. Those who buy things should live as if they own nothing. Those who use the things of the world should live as if they were not using them, because this world in its present form will soon be gone.
1 Corinthians 7:26 American Standard Version (ASV)
I think therefore that this is good by reason of the distress that is upon us, namely, that it is good for a man to be as he is.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 American Standard Version (ASV)
But this I say, brethren, the time is shortened, that henceforth both those that have wives may be as though they had none; and those that weep, as though they wept not; and those that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and those that buy, as though they possessed not; and those that use the world, as not using it to the full: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
1 Corinthians 7:26 New International Version (NIV)
Because of the present crisis, I think that it is good for a man to remain as he is.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 New International Version (NIV)
What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they do not; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.
1 Corinthians 7:26 New King James Version (NKJV)
I suppose therefore that this is good because of the present distress—that it is good for a man to remain as he is
I Corinthians 7:29-31 New King James Version (NKJV)
But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.
1 Corinthians 7:26 Amplified Bible (AMP)
I think then that because of the impending distress [that is, the pressure of the current trouble], it is good for a man to remain as he is.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 Amplified Bible (AMP)
But I say this, believers: the time has been shortened, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they did not; and those who weep, as though they did not weep; and those who rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and those who buy, as though they did not possess [anything]; and those who use the world [taking advantage of its opportunities], as though they did not make full use of it. For the outward form of this world [its present social and material nature] is passing away.
1 Corinthians 7:26 The Passion Translation (TPT)
Because of the severe pressure we are in, I recommend you remain as you are.
1 Corinthians 7:29-31 The Passion Translation (TPT)
My friends, what I mean is this. The urgency of our times mean that from now on, those who have wives should live as though without them. And those who weep should forget their tears. And those who rejoice will have no time to celebrate. And those who purchase items will have no time to enjoy them. We are to live as those who live in the world but are not absorbed by it, for the world as we know it is quickly passing away.
