1 Corinthians 14:31-32
1 Corinthians 14:26-33 The Message (MSG)
So here’s what I want you to do. When you gather for worship, each one of you be prepared with something that will be useful for all: Sing a hymn, teach a lesson, tell a story, lead a prayer, provide an insight. If prayers are offered in tongues, two or three’s the limit, and then only if someone is present who can interpret what you’re saying. Otherwise, keep it between God and yourself. And no more than two or three speakers at a meeting, with the rest of you listening and taking it to heart. Take your turn, no one person taking over. Then each speaker gets a chance to say something special from God, and you all learn from each other. If you choose to speak, you’re also responsible for how and when you speak. When we worship the right way, God doesn’t stir us up into confusion; he brings us into harmony. This goes for all the churches—no exceptions.
1 Corinthians 14:31-32 King James Version (KJV)
For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
1 Corinthians 14:31-32 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted; and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets
1 Corinthians 14:31-32 New Century Version (NCV)
You can all prophesy one after the other. In this way all the people can be taught and encouraged. The spirits of prophets are under the control of the prophets themselves.
1 Corinthians 14:31-32 American Standard Version (ASV)
For ye all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted; and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets
1 Corinthians 14:31-32 New International Version (NIV)
For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.
1 Corinthians 14:31-32 New King James Version (NKJV)
For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
1 Corinthians 14:31-32 Amplified Bible (AMP)
For [in this way] you can all prophesy one by one, so that everyone may be instructed and everyone may be encouraged; for the spirits of prophets are subject to the prophets [the prophecy is under the speaker’s control, and he can stop speaking]
1 Corinthians 14:31-32 New Living Translation (NLT)
In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged. Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.
