Administrators of the affairs of the tribes: for Reuben: Eliezer son of Zicri; for Simeon: Shephatiah son of Maacah; for Levi: Hashabiah son of Kemuel; for Aaron: Zadok; for Judah: Elihu, David’s brother; for Issachar: Omri son of Michael; for Zebulun: Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; for Naphtali: Jerimoth son of Azriel; for Ephraim: Hoshea son of Azaziah; for one half-tribe of Manasseh: Joel son of Pedaiah; for the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead: Iddo son of Zechariah; for Benjamin: Jaasiel son of Abner; for Dan: Azarel son of Jeroham. These are the administrative officers assigned to the tribes of Israel. David didn’t keep a count of men under the age of twenty, because GOD had promised to give Israel a population as numerous as the stars in the sky. Joab son of Zeruiah started out counting the men, but he never finished. God’s anger broke out on Israel because of the counting. As it turned out, the numbers were never entered into the court records of King David. The king’s storage facilities were supervised by Azmaveth son of Adiel. Jonathan son of Uzziah was responsible for the warehouses in the outlying areas. Ezri son of Kelub was in charge of the field workers on the farms. Shimei the Ramathite was in charge of the vineyards and Zabdi the Shiphmite was in charge of grapes for the wine vats. Baal-Hanan the Gederite was in charge of the olive and sycamore-fig trees in the western hills, and Joash was in charge of the olive oil. Shitrai the Sharonite was in charge of herds grazing in Sharon and Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of herds in the valley. Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels, Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the donkeys, and Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks. These were the ones responsible for taking care of King David’s property. Jonathan, David’s uncle, a wise and literate counselor, and Jehiel son of Hacmoni, were responsible for raising the king’s sons. Ahithophel was the king’s counselor; Hushai the Arkite was the king’s friend. Ahithophel was later replaced by Jehoiada son of Benaiah and by Abiathar. Joab was commander of the king’s army.

Hashabiah son of Kemuel was over the tribe of Levi. Zadok was over the people of Aaron. Elihu, one of David’s brothers, was over the tribe of Judah. Omri son of Michael was over the tribe of Issachar. Ishmaiah son of Obadiah was over the tribe of Zebulun. Jerimoth son of Azriel was over the tribe of Naphtali. Hoshea son of Azaziah was over the tribe of Ephraim. Joel son of Pedaiah was over West Manasseh. Iddo son of Zechariah was over East Manasseh. Jaasiel son of Abner was over the tribe of Benjamin. Azarel son of Jeroham was over the tribe of Dan. These were the leaders of the tribes of Israel. The LORD had promised to make the Israelites as many as the stars in the sky. So David only counted the men who were twenty years old and older. Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the people, but he did not finish. God became angry with Israel for counting the people, so the number of the people was not put in the history book about King David’s rule. Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the royal storehouses. Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the country, towns, villages, and towers. Ezri son of Kelub was in charge of the field workers who farmed the land. Shimei, from the town of Ramah, was in charge of the vineyards. Zabdi, from Shapham, was in charge of storing the wine that came from the vineyards. Baal-Hanan, from Geder, was in charge of the olive trees and sycamore trees in the western hills. Joash was in charge of storing the olive oil. Shitrai, from Sharon, was in charge of the herds that fed in the Plain of Sharon. Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of the herds in the valleys. Obil, an Ishmaelite, was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah, from Meronoth, was in charge of the donkeys. Jaziz, from the Hagrites, was in charge of the flocks. All these men were the officers who took care of King David’s property. Jonathan was David’s uncle, and he advised David. Jonathan was a wise man and a teacher of the law. Jehiel son of Hacmoni took care of the king’s sons. Ahithophel advised the king. Hushai, from the Arkite people, was the king’s friend. Jehoiada and Abiathar later took Ahithophel’s place in advising the king. Jehoiada was Benaiah’s son. Joab was the commander of the king’s army.
