Now is the time for us to progress beyond the basic message of Christ and advance into perfection. The foundation has already been laid for us to build upon: turning away from our dead works to embrace faith in God, teaching about different baptisms, impartation by the laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. So with God’s enablement we will move on to deeper truths. It is impossible to restore an apostate. For once a person has come into God’s light, and tasted the gifts of the heavenly realm, and has received the Holy Spirit, and feasted on the good Word of God, and has entered into the power of the age that is breaking in, if he abandons his faith, there is no use even trying to lead him to repentance. By their sin of apostasy they re-crucify the Son of God, and have publicly repudiated him. For men’s hearts are just like the soil that drinks up the showers which often fall upon it. Some soil will yield crops as God’s blessing upon the field. But if the field continues to produce only thorns and thistles a curse hangs over it and it will be burned. Even though we speak like this, beloved, we are fully convinced that there are more beautiful and excellent things, which flow from your salvation. For God, the Faithful One, is not unfair. How can he forget the beautiful work you have done for him? He remembers the love you demonstrate as you continually serve his beloved ones for the glory of his name.

It seems like no time at all—a “vapor,” as Scripture describes it in James 4:14—before parents face the day when their sons and daughters will leave the nest and fly off on their own. Part of anticipating that launch includes gradually giving them additional responsibilities and greater independence. Let’s think about preparing for the time when our children are officially grown.

The strength of a building lies in its foundation. In the natural sense, the main purpose of the foundation is to hold the structure above it and keep it upright. This definition of the purpose of the foundation applies even more to our spiritual lives. In Part Three of Nine of our Hebrews devotional plans, we see just how important it is to have a solid spiritual foundation.
How often do you get frustrated, angry, and worried because things don’t go the way you want them to? Stop and ponder who is really in charge of our lives. The answer is always “God,” no matter what we think or how things appear. Patiently trust him and his perfect plans! This six-day devotion series addresses how we can learn to trust God and understand that he remains in control.
