When Jesus had again crossed over in the boat to the other side [of the sea], a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He stayed by the seashore. One of the synagogue officials named Jairus came up; and seeing Him, fell at His feet [Matt 9:18-26; Luke 8:41-56] and begged anxiously with Him, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; [please] come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will be healed and live.” And Jesus went with him; and a large crowd followed Him and pressed in around Him [from all sides]. A woman [in the crowd] had [suffered from] a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had endured much [suffering] at the hands of many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but instead had become worse. She had heard [reports] about Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His outer robe. For she thought, “If I just touch His clothing, I will get well.” Immediately her flow of blood was dried up; and she felt in her body [and knew without any doubt] that she was healed of her suffering.

It’s hard to know how to pray when someone dear is hurt or sick. When you don’t know whether to cry or be brave, the words get caught. But, whether we are eloquent or stuttering, He listens. In this 3-day plan, pray along with a mother who has spent significant time at the side of her little one’s hospital bed. Pray for healing, but also for peace and perseverance as God takes you through the difficult journey of caring for your loved one.

Saint Ignatius (www.PrayAsYouGo.com) believed that God could speak to us just as clearly in our imagination as through our thoughts and our memories. In his Spiritual Exercises he writes of contemplation as a very active way of engaging your feelings, emotions, and senses to place your self in the scene described. Listen to the events of Jesus’ life described in these reflections. Pay attention to the details: sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and feelings of the event. Lose yourself in the story.
This five-day family devotional focuses on a remarkable day when Jesus revealed God’s power to a crowd and a household. There’s an option each day to play the compelling free biblical game app Guardians of Ancora. As you read the Bible and talk with God, you will be encouraged to explore this exciting way to meet with God, discover stories about Jesus and share your adventures together.
