Ephesians 5
5
1Therefore be imitators of God # Mt 5:48; Eph 4:32 as beloved children. 2Walk in love, # Jn 13:34; Col 3:14 as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us as a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God.
3And do not let sexual immorality, # 1Co 6:18; Eph 5:5; Col 3:5 or any impurity, or greed be named among you, as these are not proper among saints. 4Let there be no filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse joking, which are not fitting. # Eph 4:29 Instead, give thanks. 5For this you know, that no sexually immoral or impure person, or one who is greedy, who is an idolater, # Col 3:5 has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. # Gal 5:21
Walk as Children of Light
6Let no one deceive you with empty words, # Col 2:8 for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. # Ro 1:18 7Therefore do not be partakers with them.
8For you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light # Lk 16:8; Jn 12:36 — 9for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth # Ro 15:14 — 10proving what is pleasing to the Lord. # 1Th 5:21 11And do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness; # Ro 13:12 instead, expose them. # 1Ti 5:20 12For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. # Eph 5:3 13But all things are exposed when they are revealed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. # Jn 3:20–21 14Therefore He says:
“Awake, you who sleep, # Isa 60:1; Ro 13:11
arise from the dead, # Isa 26:19
and Christ will give you light.”
15See then that you walk carefully, not as fools, but as wise men, # Col 4:5 16making the most of the time because the days are evil. # Eph 6:13 17Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. # Ro 12:2; Col 1:9; 1Th 4:3 18Do not be drunk with wine, # Pr 20:1; 1Co 5:11 for that is reckless living. But be filled with the Spirit. # Lk 1:15 19Speak to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. # Ac 16:25; 1Co 14:26; Col 3:16 20Give thanks always for all things to God the Father # Ps 34:1 in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, # Col 3:17 21being submissive to one another in the fear of God. # Php 2:3
Wives and Husbands
22Wives, be submissive to your own husbands as unto the Lord. # Col 3:18; 1Pe 3:1–6 23For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head and Savior of the church, which is His body. # Eph 1:22–23; Col 1:18 24But as the church submits to Christ, so also let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it, # Eph 5:28; Col 3:19 26that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, # 1Co 6:11 27and that He might present to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish. # 2Co 11:2; Eph 1:4; Col 1:22 28In this way men ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. # Eph 5:25, 33 29For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord cares for the church. 30For we are members of His body, # 1Co 6:15 of His flesh and of His bones. # Ge 2:23 31“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh.” # Ge 2:24; Mt 19:5; 1Co 6:16 # 5:31 Ge 2:24. 32This is a great mystery, but I am speaking about Christ and the church. 33However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
