Leviticus 5:7, 9, 10

We see the familiar cycle in the book of Judges: Israel rebels, falling into idolatry. As a consequence, they are oppressed. In their distress, they repent and cry out to God. God reminds them of His faithfulness, responds to their plea by raising a deliverer, and sets in motion a plan to restore them. In Judges 11, that deliverer is Jephthah. The story of Jephthah reminds us how God, in His mercy, raises unlikely people to fulfil His purpose, but also how human wisdom, when clouded by worldly thinking, can lead to tragic endings.

The Bible is a compilation of 66 books. Each book has an overarching theme. Multiple stories and texts in each book point to an attribute of God. When these themes are recognized, they help us understand the message of that book better. It also allows us to see how One Single Story is woven from beginning to end. Ultimately, each theme will enable us to understand Jesus and why He came.

Although often overlooked and ignored, the book of Leviticus is filled with God's gracious and merciful provisions for his people. Through sacrifice and ritual, God enabled his sinful people to dwell in his holy presence.
