1 Chronicles 15:12-14

A series by Heidi Wysman. David was anointed king at the tender age of 17, but only sat on the throne at 30. That’s a long gap but during those years David learned how to handle crises, love his enemies, honour authority, do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with his God. It was an important refining and training time. By the time David became king of Israel, his security was firmly rooted in God’s goodness and justice. God had proved Himself to be faithful time and again in the past, and now David’s confidence in God was unshakable.

From the beginning, God intended for us to be in His presence. The Garden of Eden exemplified perfect communion until sin disrupted it. Throughout history, God has restored communion, from leading the Israelites to establishing His presence in the tabernacle and temple, culminating in Jesus’ arrival and sacrifice. Now, the Holy Spirit resides in every believer, making us God's temple.

Written following their return from exile, Chronicles is a theological retelling of Israel's monarchial history. In this post-exilic season, doubt and apathy plagued God's people and their trust in His promises. The Chronicler responds by reminding Israel of God's faithfulness from Adam to Moses to David and ultimately points toward a Greater David to come.

By the end of this study, we pray that you will know God’s voice better, that you will know when and how he speaks, and feel compelled to obey. As we study Scripture, we will discover that God’s plan cannot be thwarted regardless of who is in power. The point of the original monarchy found in 1 and 2 Samuel, illustrates that from the beginning.
