“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, and to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”

Jesus answered him, “Get behind me, Satan! It is written, ‘Yoʋ shall worship the Lord yoʋr God, and him only shall yoʋ serve.’ ”

But Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”

Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness

Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘Yoʋ shall not put the Lord yoʋr God to the test.’ ”

And when the devil had finished every temptation, he left him until an opportune time.

So the devil brought him up to a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. Then the devil said to him, “To yoʋ I will give all this authority and glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I can give it to whomever I wish. If yoʋ, then, will worship me, it will all be yoʋrs.” Jesus answered him, “Get behind me, Satan! It is written, ‘Yoʋ shall worship the Lord yoʋr God, and him only shall yoʋ serve.’ ”

Then the devil brought him to Jerusalem, set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If yoʋ are the Son of God, throw yoʋrself down from here, for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning yoʋ, to guard yoʋ,’ and, ‘In their hands they will lift yoʋ up, so that yoʋ do not strike yoʋr foot against a stone.’ ” Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘Yoʋ shall not put the Lord yoʋr God to the test.’ ”
