When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished.” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

After this, Jesus, knowing that everything was now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst.”

When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that time, this disciple took her to his own home.

But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was dead already, they did not break His legs. However, one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

For these things happened so that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken,” and again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they have pierced.”

He went out, carrying His own cross, to a place called The Place of a Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.

The soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and they put a purple robe on Him.
