2nd Samuel depicts the establishment of the Davidic dynasty as God made the covenant with David that his house would endure forever. However, David had soon fallen into sin by committing adultery with Bathsheba and murdering Uriah, incurring punishments among the nation. The books of Samuel show us that our ultimate trust is not in rulers who can conquer nations, but the foreshadowed Messiah who can conquer sins.

“The Life of David” is an in-depth study through 1-2 Samuel. Together, we will look at how David stewarded his heart through the complexities and challenges he faced. This month-long study will bring biblical context to why we do what we do as a community: ministering to the Lord and establishing a resting place for Him.

This is the tenth installment of a Bible reading plan following the lectionary pattern, featuring daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. This month includes a daily reading of God's covenant with David from 1 Chronicles 17, intended to frame our understanding of the overarching Gospel narrative in which 2 Samuel plays a vital role.
