The opening of 1 Chronicles isn’t exactly the most exciting part of the Bible. It’s nine chapters of straight-up genealogy, but why did God put it here? Written in the postexilic period, the books of Chronicles present the history of Israel with a purpose very different from the other historical books like that of Books of Samuel and Kings - to remind the despairing remnants that God’s promise to bring forth a Messiah through the royal Davidic lineage still stands. Heaven and earth will pass away, but the LORD’s faithfulness endures forever.
