Translations

John Owen translated and wrote many books in English and in Welsh. He wrote memoirs of the Rev. Daniel Rowlands in 1840, and to Rev. Thomas Jones of Creaton in 1851. Between 1849 and 1855 he translated many of John Calvin’s commentaries on the Minor Prophets and the General Epistles from Latin into English, which were published by the Calvin Translation Society. They are still in print. These include a few verses in Welsh. Owen used these verses as examples in his English translations of John Calvin's Commentaries. These verses are included in an appendix of selections.

John Owen then translated many of these books on the prophets and the epistles, from Hebrew and Greek into Welsh. His translation of Romans was published in 1850. His translation of the prophets with notes were published in instalments in Y Traethodydd: Habakkuk and Hosea in 1852, Micah in 1853, and then the Lamentations of Jeremiah , Jonah and Obadiah in 1856. In 1862 he published the General Epistles from James to Judas with notes and appendices.
