Maliseet

The Maliseet (Skicinuwatu) or Maliseet-Passamaquoddy language is spoke by the Maliseet people of New Brunswick in Canada and also the Passamaquoddy people of Maine in the USA.

Maliseet Selections

Silas Tertius Rand produced Scriptures in Maliseet and Micmac. In 1863 he published a 23 page booklet of Scripture Selections in Maliseet, using Pitman Phonetic Script. The selections are: Exodus chapter 19 and 20, including the Ten Commandments; Luke 1:26-38 and Luke 1:26-38 and 2:4-21 about the birth of Jesus; Matthew 6:5-15 the Lord's Prayer; Luke 15 Parables; and John 3:1-22 the story of Nicodemus; and ending with Luke chapters 22, 23 and 24 about Jesus's death and resurrection.

These were printed for the Micmac Missionary Society at Halifax in Nova Scotia, by the Isaac Pitman Phonetic Institution in Bath, England in 1863.

Silas Tertius Rand

S.T.Rand was born in Nova Scotia in 1810. He became a Baptist pastor and worked as a missionary amongst the Mi'kmaq and Maliseet people. in 1849 helped found the Micmac Missionary Society. In Maliseet he published some Bible Selections in 1863 and the Gospel of John in 1870. In Mi'kmaq he produced the whole New Testament and the Old Testament books of Genesis, Exodus and Psalms. He died in 1889.
