Romoaania Language
Romoaania is the language of the Duke of York Island in the New Britain Group of Papua New Guinea.
Bible Translation
the Gospel of Mark (A Wewapua Auakak a Nun Iesu Karisito Mareko) was first published in 1882. Mark was translated by Benjamin Danks and Isaac Rooney, of the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society of Australasia. The Gospel of Matthew (A Wewapua Auakak Mataio) was published in 1886. Matthew was translated by George Brown of the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society of Australasia. This also included some selections: Numbers (Buk na Winawan u ra Bil) 21:4-9; some Psalms (A Buk Na Kelekele) 1, 8, 19, 23, 95, 103, 121, 139; Isaiah (Isaia) chapter 53; Luke 7:11-17, 10:25-42, 12:13-21, 13:1-9, chapter 15, 16:19-31, 18:1-14, chapter 19, 24:13-53; and John (Ioane) chapters 1, 3, 4, 8:14, chapter 9, 10, 11, 15; Acts (A Buk na Pinapam) 1:9-12.
In 1896 a new edition was printed with revised versions of Mark and Matthew.
Pubication
These were published together in 1896, for the New South Wales Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS) by Samuel E. Lees of 83 York Street, Sydney.
