Body Image God's Wayናሙና
Perfectly Shaped Body
For most of my life I’ve heard that I’m the apple of God’s eye, but somehow the voices of the world around me had a way of muffling that truth. From the time I was a little girl I believed that I simply took up too much physical space in the room and that because of that there was something about me that was flawed. Something wrong. Something inferior.
The enemy wants us to believe that there’s something not quite right about us, and he’ll do anything possible to shine light on our insecurities. He does this to keep us bound and unfree so that we feel unworthy of living the life that God has specifically prepared and planned for us to live.
But the truth is, we are known by God. He literally shaped us, individually, in our mother’s womb. He put together every detail, every freckle, every molecule. He knew what our personality would be like, and what we’d be passionate about. He knew everything about us.
He knew the challenges we’d face, both inwardly and outwardly. He knew what we’d walk through in this body. He knew what struggles we’d have loving and accepting this body He shaped for us.
God knew.
He knows.
And in all of His knowing, He still calls us good. He’s not intimidated by the areas of our lives or bodies that cause us shame. He’s committed to walking with us, hand-in-hand, until we find total freedom through Him.
I don’t know about you, but I want to care about what He cares about. I want to love who He loves and what He loves. I want to see not only others the way He sees them, but I want to see myself the way He sees me.
Not so that I can walk around with a supersized ego. That’d be counterproductive and wouldn’t be much fun for the other people in the room.
But so that I can take my eyes off of my insecurities and fix them on Him. So that I can live out the holy plans He has for my life. So that I can rest from the tiring job of evaluating what must be wrong with me or wrong with my body.
God knows everything about you. From the deepest depths to the most light-hearted and fun. From the crown of your head to the soles of your feet. You’ve always been known. He’s been with you in every moment of your life, including before you even took your first breath. He knows you, and He loves you, and He has a good plan for your life.
Ask God to open your eyes to see yourself the way He sees you today.
