Conversation Starters – Olathe Campus
OPENING UP: What is one personal takeaway you had from the sermon? What is one question you had from the sermon?
DRAWING CONNECTIONS: We believe that the church is where hope can be found for you and for me and for all. But we often view hope as nothing more than wishful thinking. How does the Christian hope differ from this conventional way of thinking about hope?
MAKE IT PERSONAL: Read Ephesians 4:25-32. What are some specific ways that following Jesus causes us to be or look “strange” to others? What are the “strangest” qualities of a follower of Christ in our world today?
ASSESSING HABITS: Nathan focused in on the “strangeness” of words that build. Discuss together some real tangible and practical ways that we can more regularly and lovingly use words to build up one another.
NAVIGATING CULTURE: Being “strange” doesn’t mean that we have an excuse to be unrelatable. How do we navigate being faithful to following Jesus and yet still maintain a sense of relatability?
PRAYER: Take some time to pray these strange qualities from Ephesians over each other. Ask God to equip us to be people of hope for all people through the words we speak and through the lives we live. Pray this over your relationships, your homes, your neighborhoods and your places of influence.
