>> Being a Church of Hope
1. Regularly rub shoulders with people different than you.
“People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
2. Admit that you have a culture...and that it isn’t the best one
3. Treat strangers like family

Revelation 7:9-10

Conversation Starters – Olathe Campus
Date: September 18, 2016
Series: Hope of the World
Text: Ephesians 2:11-22
OPENING UP: What is one personal takeaway you had from the sermon? What is one question you had from the sermon?
LOOKING AROUND: We live in a culture that is increasingly suspicious of institutions and implicitly biased towards individualism. (In other words, we tend not to trust organizations and we value “doing things your own way”.) How does Paul’s presentation of the church counter these cultural assumptions?
DRAWING CONNECTIONS: In Ephesians 2, Paul describes the church as a family. What are some of the “dividing walls” that exist in the church that keep us from being a church where anybody can be family?
SCRIPTURE: Read Ephesians 2:14-18. As you hear Paul’s description of how the church ought to be, share the things that come to mind of what our church would look if we reflected this image he paints for us.
LIVING IT OUT: Reid mentioned three ways we can continue to be a church of hope. Rub shoulders with people different than you, admit you have a culture, and treat strangers like family. Which of these do we do well? Which of these do we not do well? How can our Community Group help to make our church a place where anybody can become part of the family?
PRAY: What are some big things that have taken place in your life since our last session of Community Groups? How can we be praying for you?
