Beyond Sunday
We are in the final week of our series in the book of 1 Peter. As we identify as exiles in this world, we must trust in the hope of heaven, while bringing the Kingdom of God to earth even when facing spiritual warfare. This week in chapter 5, we focus on the reality of how to handle the evil one.
1. Have you come to a belief that there is a spiritual battle on this earth, including an enemy, the devil, who seeks to harm you? If so, when and how was this view formed? If not, why not?
2. Reflect on 1 Peter 5:6-14. As Peter concludes his writing, what is he teaching us about the reality of the journey of faith? Which aspects seem clear to you and which seem unclear?
3. Peter reminds us to be alert to the fact that we need to resist our enemy, who prowls around seeking to devour us. Which of these passages John 8:44, John 10:10, Romans 8:37-39, Romans 16:20, 1 John 4:4, or James 4:7 help you in your motivation and confidence in standing firm against the devil?
4. When it comes to being self-controlled, alert, and resisting the devil, we’ll find a lot more success if we don’t try this in our own strength. What do Ephesians 6:10-20 and Galatians 5:16-26 teach us that can help us experience God’s power?
5. What action do you need to take to help you not be deceived or devoured by the evil one? Who could help you? When and how often will you?
